The difference is noticeable over time. Facebook is one of those sites that I see the difference.max wrote:
Can someone explain this whole speed thing to me?
I notice absolutely no difference between the browsers when it comes to the time it takes for it to load a new page. I always seem to be bandwidth limited. Any example sites that make the difference more apparent?
Here is a common unbiased way they test and rate browsers.

ff ffs
acid3 is a standards compliance test and doesn't have anything to do with speed afaik
To loose the customizability of FF for a couple ms rendering speed just doesn't make sense to me. Then again all my PCs are rather high end. If you're surfing on a P4 or something the world might look a little different.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Other.
Google Chrome.
a very nice simple, fast web browser... i dont need 1000 add-ons just something that loads pages fast.

I understand your reasoning. But I have enough customization in Opera already. The third test is the so called “smoothness” criterion. It is basically a speed test. No subtest may take too long – and especially subtest 26 is challenging. Compared to Slickspeed, Sun Spider, the V8 test suite or Dromaeo Acid3 is not so thorough. It will give some indication of a browsers speed, though.

hmm, fair enough. It's not really a useful benchmark if the result is only pass or fail. Any data on which browsers pass and which don't?
In the end it's a personal choice that you have to make for yourself.

I was referring to the subtest, duh

They are really shifting their power to the web 2.0 stuff. That's why I said I definetly notice a difference on facebook.
You get a score cheez.

Sure I'll give it a shot.
I'm not a fan of web 2.0. I prefer forums, email and *gasp* the phone over social networking. I get my entertainment from usenet. I like my websites with just some simple HTML over tons of flash and javascript.
Shit, I think I'm getting old.
Back to my old question: And data on which browsers pass the subtest 26 and which don't?

Didn't know Alpha was available for download! Thanks for the link

ps copy wand.dat opera6.ini and cookies4.dat from your old opera profile to the new one if you want to keep the settings
It even remembers all your tabs that you had open in Opera 9.x when you copy those files over, lulz
I'm using Google Chrome atm. It just so lightweight, easy to handle and stuff.
And the crash system is really good. The entire browser can crash of course it can.
Though if a page crashes. It only crashes the tab, not the entire browser. So thats pretty neat.
But, Firefox still rocks too. I just need the add-ons as a webdesigner. Like FireBug and FireFTP.
Firebug is just a dream for every designer out there. Amazing stuff.
As for Internet Explorer...Don't want to talk dirty about that..geez..
I remember this graph about IE: Breakdown of modern webdesign:

Thats why I deleted IE from my pc

I seem to prefer pre-release versions of Opera lawl, I didn't like 9.50 final so I've stuck with 9.50 beta2, and now I'm using 10.00 alphaKmarion wrote:
