Anyone consider that other's in our galaxy may be even more fucked up than we are?  To me there's no doubt there's life on other planets.  The likelihood it would be 'intelligent' would be remote at best.

Micro-organisms that live in extreme habitats are probably the most common life forms like the OP article suggests.

When you look at how our Solar system formed, things as simple as having the right amount of star dust come into play to have planets form like Jupiter to give Earth a shield from comets, our Moon is a huge factor in this also, but it also gives us the tides. Our ozone protects us from radiation.

There is so much that goes the chance that even in billions of Earth like bodies, we may only be in a handful that will have life. And then even less will have intelligent life.

Look at another species which did have the same opportunity that we have, take a whole planet full and give them hundreds of millions of years to evolve and they don't come anywhere near close to what humans have done in a few thousand years of evolution. Dinosaurs didn't form tools and build cities. Or farm. They had a much better chance than we did in a lot of ways. Time being one, but you didn't see that adaptation of a magnitude humans have enjoyed.

I don't doubt there is other life out there, but I think the odds of intelligent life, and then the odds of finding them and then interacting are infinitely small.

The moon keeps our seasons regulated. A crucial variable for life on this planet. No other planet in our solar system has a comparable moon in terms of it's relative size. I have a DVD called "if we had no moon". Pretty cool stuff.

There's some academics that think the moon is the result of a planetary collision with our own planet, which is possible. An interesting side note of which we may have stolen the atmosphere (or at least some of it) from the Moon during the collision in which the Moon came off the lesser.

And we only are now discovering the importance and the recently found Kuiper belt.

Exactly, if space is infite, there HAS to be another planet with similar conditions to earth, its literally impossible for there not to be.
I also think that for us to think we are the only living things in the universe is kinda arrogant. I mean thisnk of all the billions of planets out there, then imagine something wiping out earth, if there is no other life, the universe would be dead. Nothing would live in it, thats pretty mental, thinking about it in detail always makes me feel weird, its kinda hard to explain it in words

Thing is though, we're only using our definition of life.

Fascinating

But who's to say that any aliens wont be just as fucked up as we are?  We've had our share of religious zealots, and I'm willing to bet that they have too...

Who knows, they won't speak our language most likely(I'm just stating the obvious here). Plus they may not necessarily be in humanoid form like we are.

maybe not, but our form is optimized for manipulating our environment, something I'd expect an intelligent creature to be quite good at.

With billions of inhabited planets out there, we're probably the retard planet.
Most likely they are millions of years ahead of us.

According to Jim Sparks they write their letters in 3D. That's pretty kool I think !

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the Earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

Then God said, "Let there be light!" So there was light.

That means God created the heaven and the Earth, in the dark! Talk about brilliant.

I know brilliance happens. But I am sure the Bible has nothing against space exploration.
