Ok, I don't know much about timings, or if some ram is better then others for certain mobos, but I have a list here of some ram, and I need to pick out 2 gigs for my computer, then I will use my other gig in a new NAS build.

Anyway, here are what I have picked out, I think the best deal would be this first one:

G.Skill (2x 1gb) for 74.99

Patriot Signature (2x 1gb) for 74.99

A-Data (2x 1gb) for 76.99

Kingston HyperX (2x 1gb) for $80+shipping...

I'm thinking of going with that G.skill with free shipping. It's prob the best deal, but I want the best ram out of the ones available, so is there something else thats better?

Ya, I was just reading the Patriot reviews, some people said they're not great for overclocking. I have been toying around with oc'ing and I think I'd prefer something that can handle it. Will order em today

i know it sux, i was thinkin the same thing, u should see my receipt from 3 years ago when I got 2 gigs of Super-Talent new at a computer store...If I compare it to THAT then $75 is a pretty damn good deal (More then $200 less!)...But compared to DDR2...

Im a bit partial to G-Skill and A-Data having used both in the past, although Kingston is an excellent brand.

As far as timings go, more of a gimic to sell ram for more money in my opinion.  Chances of you really noticing a difference with the timings are quite slim, but if their the same price, might as well go for the lower timings anyways, just don't go out of your way to spend more for it.

They're good for budget builds. Very reliable at stock speed.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

i'd also go for the G.Skill.  Hell, i have my DDR2 800 running at 902Mhz.... and all is well.

And my friend makes fun of me for being partial to G.Skill... cause i use G.Skill in my desktop, and bought a G.Skill SoDIMM for my Eee.  pfft.

This is DDR pc3200 ram(are you just trying to boost an older system or are you going to try Oc'ing?)...
I would save the money and get this... Crucial 2x1gb  45.00 after rebate
I have used Kingston/Buffalo/ and now i have 4x512 Crucial in an older system... runs great... and yes i am building a new comp... lol

Overclocking + value RAM = no.

Try to get G-Skill Pi series, 800 MHz - they run pretty well when overclocked, I think.  Maybe not as good as crucial though, but that's another price range.  I got 4 gb for 125 AUD, runs beautifully.  Also comes with massive heatspreaders (not sure how effective they are, but they've got to be more than those flaps of metal over the ones you linked).

He is looking for DDR1 memory, not DDR2.

I have had both A-DATA and G.SKILL DDR2 sticks and they are pretty identical every way (price/oc/warranty). Only real difference was looks and the fact the A-DATAs OC'ed couple mhz higher.

Kingston HyperX series is like ultimate rip off. After my 400MHz ValueRAM OC'ed as high as my HyperX kit rated for better clocks, I have not even though about getting them...

edit: and DDR3 is now actually cheaper than DDR1. Cheapest good 6GB kit is only 120€ atm.

edit: and CrazeD, that depends what value ram. I had absolutely cheapest DDR2 I could get but the damn kit worked at 1000MHz just fine. It was A-DATA Vitesta 800MHz.

Panzer:  not surprising.  DDR3 is being phased in, while DDR hasn't been used on a new motherboard for a few years.  lol

I know. I was just commenting that DDR3 went down about 100€ recently. And if I were to buy DDR, I could get 1GB sticks dirt cheap. Hell I could get a whole DDR pc with the price he just paid of the ram.
