I'm having trouble with hosting a BF2 unranked server. If anyone knows how to make one work so others could join do you think you could tell me step by step how to get it to work.

So far I can start a server but only I can join. I have a friend and I ask him to join but he can't.

Thanks in advance,
Pinkie_slapped.

No offense at all, but why do you want to run an unranked server? There are enough unranked and ranked servers out there on teh internets!
I just would play on one or stick to a team/clan/community or something.

If you want one, be ready that people will hardly join if there are not at least 10 people or more.

You need to rent a server from a server provider...

Do you want to play with some friends or do you want a "real" public unranked server?

-.- Its a server so me and some friends can play. I'ts not a local server and its not a ranked server. Its just a server for me and some friends to play on. The only logical post here is Axatar's... thats sad.

for clarification I want to know how to run a PUBLIC UNRANKED BF2 SERVER SO ME AND FRIENDS CAN PLAY WITHOUT BEING IN THE SAME HOUSE. Hopefully I won't get any more idiot posts.

I did that but My friend can't connect to it. He can see the server but when he goes to connect it says he can't. I'm thinking maybe port fowarding would solve this?

If you want to play with friends try a VPNing software like Hamachi

Create a server, tell your friends to join it then create a local game within BF2 and tell your friends to join.
If that doesn't work, hamachi should have given you an IP adress like this 5.XX.XX.XX, with it join games with the connect to ip button in the local tab.

However, you should not play with above than 5 players unless you want some heavy lag.

If you want an unranked server, you should dedicate a machine to act as a server, use this (I never used it), it comes with all the port-forwarding issues....

I hope I helped

Go to this site: http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/ … nloads.jsp
Download the 1.4 Windows Server and the 1.41 Server update. (There's also a Highway Tampa server update somewhere, if you want to play that map.)
Install everything, then open the correct port in your firewall and/or router to let incoming traffic from your friends get through to your machine.
The default port is 16567, IIRC.

Disabling the router firewall and using Hamachi worked for me and some mates.

Well I port forwarded and opened some ports and it works but they have to connect to my ip which is fine.

Also being someone that used to host one of the biggest rsps about 2 years ago, I've come to hate Hamachi. Its just another download that is not needed to get the job done.

Now to find out how to get bf2cc to work so I can run modded servers
