You need at least 2.5GHz AMD to reliably play 1080p.
Pick up a X2 4800+, decent cooler for a light OC, a 780G mobo, some ram and the usual stuff. Works perfectly
awesome little PSUPlaying 1080p content does need some CPU power. The general guideline is a 2.5GHz AMD X2 or a 2.0GHz Intel C2D. If you get to those speeds @ stock or via OCing doesn't matter. Then again some extra CPU power can never hurt, some moves are terribly encoded and you will need a little more power. These days even the lowest end CPUs have no problem hitting 3GHz, so pretty much whatever you buy it'll work.cospengle wrote:
Nub question, but do you need a good processor for a home theatre?
I would have thought you'd want an 'adequate' CPU that throws out as little heat as possible. Low-range C2D for example. Am I wrong?
I really don't see a need to OC (unless you want to F@H while you're not watching pr0n).

- Antec NSK24000 (~$100)
- Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H: mATX with NVidia 9400 IGP (~$120)
- Seasonic S12-330W (could be on the low side, I'm not sure how much power this machine would need) (~$50)
- Could also get an Antec Earthwatts or something if you need more power
- Intel E5200 (~$70)
- Scythe Ninja Mini (~$35)
- Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB (~$100)
and ditch the 3450.

i just want the smallest and cheapest portable computer to be able watch downloaded movies/shows on tvs with hdmi
get a dell
buy prebuilt one cheapo and make it your server with tversity. problem with alot of downloaded stuff is it's resolution is cut down so the hdmi isnt really going to make a difference?phishman420 wrote:

with HDMI, you're going to have to have onboard graphics, so no need for your 3450.
What I posted would be great. You could go down to the NVidia 7100, like the $60 Foxconn, but I don't think it'll be able to play HD without occasional stuttering... Intel's G45 is pretty much the same price, and worse than the 9400.
You could also go cheaper on the case (like this), but it'll ultimately have lower build quality and higher noise than the Antec.

I don't see any difference on my TV between bluray and divx/xvid from where I'm looking at. Better sound perhapsGooners wrote:
