Hay, good morning hope you are well!

Obv i got my touch at the weekend and i knew the provided iPod headphones were going to be bad but nothing prepared me for exactly how bad. I will go and buy some moderately priced ones today, any makes i should be looking at and a particular price bracket? I read about some Shure earbuds that were around £65, now thats really a lot more than i want to pay BUT if they are that good i would consider buying them. Otherwise, i'd be happy spending £30/£40 on a set.

I heard Sony made some good'uns, Sennheiser speak for themselves i should think, but any solid suggestions?

~ Ben.

I recently bought these for €30 to go with my Zen, and they're surprisingly good for their price.

Dayum, they're cheap for you UK:ers (£19.99). Maybe they're.. ..too cheap?

Looking good, i wasn't sure if Creative would have been a suitable selection, possible because i've never been impressed with their speaker systems i've had over the years.

Do they really respond well on bass notes? Good ambience?

Well, it's difficault to say when I've really not tried the "best awesome expensive super-headphones" out there, but they're a good set of earbuds in my personal opinion. Bass frequencies are definitely present. If by ambience you mean that while walking on the street listening to some tunes, you feel like you're in a music video, then yes. Although that's probably due to earbuds blocking out external noises pretty efficiently.

Yea, I think the ones I posted above are the ones that come with the Zen Xi-Fi. I bought the Zen 4GB (see Freezer, I did it right), which had awful headphones. Had I known, I would've gone for the Xi-Fi directly, as the final balance on the receipt didn't differ many €:s.

Hah!

I have those, they're awesome. Well, they're awesome for me because they actually stay in my ears when I go running/cycling because of the squidgy thingy. Sound quality perfect, plenty of bass.

But I got them for free with my laptop!

Shure's are awsm. The cheapest pair are about £54 (SE110). I have those and they've got great sound. Only problem I have with them is they lack a bit in bass.

CX300s are ok-ish, but they're seriously weak on the upper mids. Expect using a brutal EQ.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yeah. But for the price you can't complain. I could obviously spec better oens at a higher price but these definitely should be considered.
