Not really, because it's PCIe 2.0. So, x8 == x16 PCIe 1.1.
doesn't matter, because more bandwidth SHOULD help regardless of if that bandwidth is being used.
How so?

It's the same deal as using a SATA2 drive on SATA. The extra bandwidth does absolutely nothing because it is not used.

I know, I never said they where either, it is simply an example.  I thought it was particularly interesting consider Crysis favours Nvidia hardware.

There is a lot of tests, the 4870x2 is listed twice, with current and then beta drivers.  As I said, as you crank up the filters and the rez, it seems to pull ahead in a lot of those games even on the current drivers.

hmm... they didn't use i7 like most when testing the cards... nvidia should get out some new drivers soon too so we'll see... Its already known that the GTX 295 runs out of vram when 2560x2048 and AA+AF... but unless u got a 30" Sony there its not a problem...

One thing I promise when I get the card I'll run it through hefty load of games and benchies... I got a word that nVIDIA is already making a driver for  GTX 295 to outrun the ATi by reasonable difference 8)

edit: when this comes to price/performance..... it will be the bloodiest fight in GPU history...

Kind of debating it myself.  Found a BFG 295 for 407 on ebuyer, xfx is at 410.  I think I will sit back a bit and see how it settles down.  Nvidia have those drivers releasing, ati have catalyst 9.1 and are apparantly turning on side port so it will be an interesting battle.  I dont really see prices shifitng all that much though, since the 295 I believe is a limited run part and has a short life span, I believe it's EOL is due like april-may.  It will certainly get a replacement by then.

Also the warranties on those ATi cards are kind of shit.

Still, that is one impressive boost even if it only applies in crysis

Catalyst 9.1 is supposed to give huge Crossfire scaling fixes.  As in +80% in some games...

I suspect the fact that Quad Crossfire (X2 x 2) makes the difference even bigger than regular Crossfire setups

No, I mean that X2 CF could scale worse than single core cards in CF because of the massive bandwith required by double the amount of GPUs on card... therefore granting a bigger bonus than X1 when CF scaling is improved...

So where is the board?

If am not mistaking, chinese new year has been and gone, and I havent seen the board anywhere.  I did read something about last minute checks but I cant see anyone with even the facility to pre order.

Going out on a bit of a binge before the economy totally collapses () so am interested in this board.  Tri SLI and a dedicated phyisics card

Zomg av turned into everything I ever hated (nfancunt).

It will be FINE!  Its cold here anyways

Have been looking at water cooling, dont have enough faith the case is up to the task, however, am sligtly concerned about how it would work considering it is four cards that would be in that machine (essentially).  There isnt a lot of space between, the two bottom PCI lanes.

I dont really go out drinking (much), it's amazing how much spare cash you find yourself with if yer just not into that stuff.  I'd rather get the use of it than have it sit in some bank which will get lost when the world blows up (because of my SLI SET UP ).

Oh my god.. just use on of the cores on the 295 for physics, and send me the G92..

You don't need it max, you really don't

Did you do a benchmark before/after dedicated physics card?

EDIT: Nm, just looked at the G92, and it's not as good as an 8800GTX, which my brother had, and my card was better >.<

I wish, but that's not mine.

Check out his site. He has 11 GTX295s atm but will add more. Gotta enjoy my last few moments during which I'm outproducing him. Soon I'll get "reap'ed"

And you don't?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
