Not that big issue, in fact I'm really satisfied with this Asus GTX 295 as it doesn't even have the micro-stuttering issue my EVGA had... And big WOOOT for that,.... happy to game smoothly now and temps and fan noise seems to be better but..

Card should stay in 2D clocks all the time when its on 2D. Instead of that it thinks I run something 3D application randomly... and going up and down and up in clocks. Making idle temps a lot higher than they would be with downclocking working properly.

Anyone else got this problem? 182.06 drivers here...

I wish I had enough spare money to have the 'problem' of a 295

Surely you would know that hardly any people here have a GTX295.

Try a forum that would know, my advice.

Question, did you ever use 182.06 drivers with your EVGA?

I know you know the cards come from the same place, drivers prolly caused the microstuttering.

You're prolly running precision to overclock. Try running on stock clocks. I've read that overclocking with precision adds extra clock profiles, causing sporadic clocking.

I'm using Rivatuner.

I tried 181.22 too and no stutter there either. Although the cards come from same place, every card is unique. I probably could have similar change going from EVGA to EVGA.

edit: another real difference is the fan. it seems to be quieter even at higher % than EVGA.

Its weird. Xfire kicks my GPU briefly in 3d mode then sends it back to 2d.

I guess we have the same oddity or the programs we launch indeed have some 3d shit with them. Although I don't see whats 3d in Xfire...

Sent a support ticket to nVIDIA boys...

edit: tried if exiting xfire would make a difference... nope... the card has been sticking to 3D today...

It might be a stupid question, but do you have a 3d app running in the background? Or something that has 3d interfaces?

not really... ff, xfire, winamp, messenger, utorrent, rivatuner...

Would you mind restarting your computer then open EVGA precision; watch the clocks and then open Xfire. Tell me what you see.

When Xfire loads, the card goes to 3D clocks and when it logins, it goes back to 2D. Same thing happens with MSN mesenger too... I think MSN is causing my clocks to be at 3D.... it doesn't clock down when having MSN open.

We have the same attribute definitely. Only that WLM doesn't do what you say. And with me the clocks will always go down. unless in a true 3d app like a game or benchmark, where it will stay at 3d clock until I exit.

I would not worry about it as long as it doesn't make you card as hot as magma. RMA it if it annoys you too much but I highly doubt it will fix it.

I own a half year old GTX 280 and its running perfect. Throttling is impeccable mostly. My temps are 37 when idle, 50 in CoD4 and 70 in Crysis.

Don't forget Vista is the first operating system that needs GPU power. It could be a confusion between the operating system, the application and the driver.

Its either a bug or the app does indeed have 3d attributes to it. Tell me what those guys at nvidia tell you since I'm curious to know too.

No, I was just throwing the idea around, that maybe it's Vista Aero theme that's making your card step into 3d mode?

well it obviosly isn't... I have Aero working in 50 other windows without same effect as the MSN main window has... its more like related to certain adds in the MSN.

I'm out of ideas too. Personally I think its a driver bug. You should seek support on EVGA, these guys have tech support.

Well that was fast from nVIDIA. They asked some extra info and sent it to them. Mentioned about MSN messenger and Xfire too having this problem. Waiting for reply...

you suggested ads in MSN might be causing it - search for apatch, download that and patch MSN to remove the ads (it works fine, i use it), see if that solves it

Are you sure it's not aero?

Aero does use 3d-surfaces and shit.

You need a 3d-accelerator just to use aero!
