I have a friend seeking some help.  She has a G5 and macbook that she wants to share on her home network. I've set up plenty of home networks on windows but never in an apple environment.
I'm not even sure if it's possible to set it up between macs and pc but that's what I am trying to do. I have a G5 and macbook that I want to file share with. I have and there is a pc in the house I'd like them all
Just to clarify the windows computer only needs to print the two mac need to share files. I have a router and everything (except macbook) is plugged in, I just can't figure out how to get them to see each other.
She actually wants to share a printer with a third PC machine. But first we need to worry about get her file sharing setup .

Off the top of my head I can't remember how to do it, but it's perfectly possible to do.

On Leopard,
System Prefs > Sharing > Check "File Sharing" to turn it on > Under Shared Folders, hit the +, find a path, hit add > Under Users, set who you want with how much access.

Then on the Windows, pick any address bar, type in \\<macip>\ It'll prompt you for a username/password, log in, then chose your folder.

For printer sharing, same idea, System Prefs > Sharing > Check Printer Sharing > Check your printer.
Then on the windows PC, install the standard drivers off the CD, when it asks you to plug in the printer, hit Skip, then go back to \\<macip>\ and right-click, connect.
(I haven't actually done this, but it seems the most logical way)

Is perfectly possible. You need to enable SMB sharing. By default OSX only shares over AFP (and file sharing is turned off).

Under System Preferences > Sharing, you need to enable File Sharing. Then you add any folders you wish to share to the list. Then you set permissions for users in the next list. You must remember to click the options button to enable sharing over SMB or windows sharing won't work.
