GTX 260 SLi is quite similar to GTX 295. Stock GTX 295  beats stock GTX 260 SLi by little, overclocked GTX 260s beat the GTX295 and again overclocked GTX 295 beats the overclocked GTX 260s by little.

Its a tradeoff with slot usage, slightly better persormance (GTX295) vs quieter coolers and more slots and slightly slower (GTX 260 SLi).

HD 4870x2 is the underdog here being slower than the GTX 260 SLi/GTX295. It also is hotter and louder than GTX295. But it is cheaper.

This may be a ridiculous idea but i'm just throwing it out there. how about 2 HD4850X2 in CF. how would that go? i've never heard of anyone doing it but i've seen benchmarks where the 4850X2 is only marginally behind the 4870X2

The 1GB X2 (the one that is cheap) starts to run out of vram at his resolution. And the 2GB HD4850x2 is not far from 4870x2 price.

And its LOUD and all the hot air is pumped inside the case.

Oddly enough, I get to put off my own 'new PC' for awhile, as my 9600GT laptop does quite nicely. o.O
