Looking for a new HDTV.

I would like it to have:
1080P Compatability.
At least 2 HDMI Inputs.
At least 37".
Under $1000 CAD.

I was looking at these:
Sharp Aquos 37"
LG 37"
Thanks

Go for the Aquos. I've got the 32" version of it and it's badass.

Dunno what you have now, but when you see your 360 in hi-def you'll be amazed.

I'd recommend the Sharp as well. Shop around though, Future Shop don't usually have the best prices.

Exactly. Don't buy a TV until you have seen the image quality and compared it with other TVs. Go in a shop.

Well ofcourse, I'm just wondering what some recommended brands and such are before I go in and spend $1000 on a TV

60hz, 6.5ms response.

OP: You could try for an older Samsung model, like a S5 or S6 LCD. Remember to take a look in-store before you buy.

Even in the shops they will tweak their settings to make them look good, and it might be that when you bring them home you find the colours and saturation are way too garish for a living room or bedroom.

Best thing to do is to play it safe and get a (smaller if need be) Sony Bravia

Exactly.

I was browsing round my local PC World store a number of weeks back and entered their home entertainment area and was greeted by a demonstration of 'Cars' on three screens but each with different forms of connectivity. One scart, one component and the other was HDMI. It was to prove the superiority of HDMI over its peers.

Alas, HDMI looked awesome. But upon a closer look, they'd used a better screen for the HDMI connection. So they was cheating in some respects in the way they was demonstrating the HDMI product.

Of course it goes without saying, HDMI > scart/component etc.. but still, their demo was a bit naughty. Needless to say, it says a lot about PC World, i doubt i would ever buy a TV under their advice anyway. I'd go see my friend at his independant Hi-Fi store.

Not always. Sometimes they don't know how to properly tweak their settings, but you can assume that if it looks poor at a shop, it's probably not worth messing with at home. At any rate, you're going to be getting a better idea of what you're getting through your own eyes than stats on the internet.

Basically, it seems to be between Sony and Samsung at the moment. Both brands have specific advantages and disadvantages, but seem to balance out. They get good ratings from reviews. Samsungs are better-priced than the Sonys, which are pretty much pulling a Bose and selling stuff for way more than it's worth just because their good name carries umph. Fortunately for my future purchasing plans, I like Samsung's picture quality better from side-by-side comparison.

Additionally, I wouldn't spend a bundle on a TV (unless you're rich enough to retech every few years or so), as Ultra HD is creeping up like the troll it is.

Chances are, people going for a new TV are going to be shopping for HDMI anyway, so displays like that can be freely ignored.

Of course, if you care, do your shopping on the net, learn the importants of stats like brightness, contrast and response and dig up the numbers for the TV's you're interested in, because you're probably not going to see the complete lists in-store. But again, the numbers aren't everything.
