How do you change GPU drivers

what i mean is how do you switch from nvidia to ati. here is the situation.

i have a zotac 8800GT 512MB, and have someone who is keen to swap it for his Gainward 4850 512MB. First off, is gainward any good and is it a good swap???

anyway, since i have nvidia drivers installed, i will need to removes them and then replace it with ati drivers.

so how is it done??? note, i have no on board graphics

Control panel -> Programs and features -> Uninstall nV drivers -> Pop new card in -> Go to ATI website -> Download ATI drivers -> Install them -> Done.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Step one: Uninstall Drivers

Step two: Swap cards

Step three: Install ATi drivers

That's the simple way.

And maybe run "Driver Cleaner" http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 before you
install the new drivers to make sure you really got rid of every nvidia stuff.

quick, someone tell me if a zotac 8800GT(which i paid £90) for a swap with a Gainward 4850(£122 on ebuyer) plus the guy wants £20 on top, is worth it.

is it a good deal??????

My previous Vista install saw more than 30 major hardware changes. I moved to i7 without even removing the old chipset drivers.

ok, im getting the 4850 tommorow, so i will unistall the nvidia drivers, do a cleaner driver thing. then plug the new card in.

question, when i install the drivers, do i straight away install the latest drivers????(the card has no driver cd)

As soon as you put the card in and boot. You should probably download them before you swap.

Actually either way is cool. The card'll just run driverless and scrolling will look sloppy etc. Also, one question mark is needed only.. Adding more makes you look like you aren't educated.

its had a few owners so want to test it to see if its in full working order
