Looks like the slightly faster loading times don't make up for the greatly increased installation times.

It would be overall more beneficial to just get a 7200RPM drive instead.

Or externally mount a VelociRaptor to it.

the way this looks is basically a 7200 barely speeds the ps3 up, a SSD does the same thing but costs an assload more

yea I wanna see people mount a 10k-15k tbh

I heard that someone by the name of keefy actually did externally connect a Raptor or VelociRaptor and he benchmarked it but I can't seem to find that on Google.  Let me try again with the name.

Edit: Got nothin

Interesting stuff. But in my opinion, for the marginal performance gain, I think it's best to stay with 5400 rpm drives (I'm going to) in the event of an upgrade.

Why does a PS3 need an SSD?

I haven't seen the PS3 actually need a faster drive than what it already has.

Well of course it's not going to need it.  It's just really cool to have one in a PS3.

I suppose it would be one of those last-minute upgrades, when you already have every other techy object you can think of. Me, I'd rather buy another PS3 for another room.
