Im looking for an application/OS/setup which will allow me to have what you do at college/school where you get a log in and have your own user area and stuff for a home set up.

We have a min of 8 PCs connected to our network and was just wondering if it would be better have a local server that can do the above and set up the OS on each PC to connect to the server using their user-name and pass.

I have Server 08 but haven't seen how to do it yet.

Any ideas?

You may want to look into FreeNAS, it'll let you create a folder per user, then Samba share it out to the network.

If you wanna go true DIY, look into Ubuntu Server, and install and configure Samba by yourself, I can help you there, as it's a little more complicated and I HAVE, and currently am doing it, but you get more features in case you want to expand.

Thats not quite what im looking for but thanks.

Im looking for something similar to ranger ( http://www.rangersuite.com/products_des … on/rfn/how )

I want to maintain an OS on the central server, and then allow multiple users to connect to it, and any changes made on the central server are reflected on the clients computers.

Or have I got that wrong?
