rockbox.org
Controlling this is much better. Long center press to let me play with the playlist and change sound settings, long menu press for shuffle & repeat. Party mode. No more needing to edit id3 tags (I can still use them from the database menu but I vastly prefer going though the folders). Sweet EQ, crossfading and all that. Loads more info on the screen. Everything is customizable. I feel like when I first switched to FF from IE6.
<3 rockbox
About the same as my 5.5 gen 80GB ipod. Maybe slightly better. Dunno, maybe richer is the right word?

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Of course it plays all formats you can throw at it, has a big replaceable battery. Files can either be put on there via drag&drop or though loads of players. All my music is on there, all seasons of The Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, Married with Children, Two and a half men and I still have space for about 100 movies.
3G 8GB iPhone.

Yes but thats like comparing the interior size of a Smart and a Hummer.Ioan92 wrote:

Whatever the size, it doesn't change that the firmware on the ipod is way too restrictive.

I think I've posted here, but whatever -
<---- 16gb iPhone Touch. Never been happier with either a phone or music player in my life, and I've been through quite a few. You can throw whatever you want at me to try and oppose it and say something else is better technologically or whatever, but it does what it needs to do. The only thing I can say I don't like is it's restriction to iTunes, but iTunes really isn't that bad.

Sure it does. Most of my music just doesn't have album art. It shows it on the left side of the screen.Kmarion wrote:

It is expensive but you do get what you pay for. The hardware used here is pretty high end. If you have no need for a big HDD and screen you're better off getting some cheap flash based product.

I like the product but it's just more than what I would pay. I'd have a tough time watching an entire movie on the screen even though it is bigger than most.max wrote:

Yes I get what a pay for, and I buy what I want/need. Personally I don't need a $500+ media player when I've got PC's and laptops around me nearly 24/7. When I'm out running all I need is music. In the rare instance that I'm not around any of those devices (and bored) I have my kindle.
The lesson I think is that everyone has their reasons for what they purchase.

I've watched a couple movies on it now and I'm pleasantly surprised. I fly a lot and those damn flight attendants think that my laptop will somehow crash the plane .

"Vs" in what respect? Size? Why the fuck would I want to carry something that epically-huge around in my pocket? Mp3 players are meant to be portable and compact, to me it seems like a 15-year regression if we revert back to carrying around devices bigger and heavier than Sony Walkmans, with pointlessly large screens. May as well just invest several hundred dollars in a boom-box again and go back to carrying your tunes around on your shoulder, amirite?
I'm sure it has better tech-specs and whatnot, but it doesn't change the fact that the actual thought behind the product is absolutely useless and fucking redundant for 99.99% of people. Like Kmar said, if I wanted something with a big screen that could do all the tricks including music, I'd get out my laptop. If I want a music-player that supports music/film/pictures with a decent capacity and design size/weight, I'll stick to my better-priced iPod, thanks.

holy shit that thing is huge. no way it fits in a normal pocket
Don't get your panties in a bunch.
Large screens are great if you like to watch video content. If you stick to music it's obviously not a good choice. Just like you won't need 320GB storage for a couple of mp3s.
