can I do it? I want to dual boot with xp and windows 7, can i take the extra space from my c drive and assign it to a new logical drive, or not because all the space on the hard drive is spread out and in clusters already?
XP can't naively shrink a partition like vista can, but your fave partitioning software (gparted, acronis, ...) will be able to.
Once the partition is shrunk you can create a new one in the empty space

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
The partition you want to split will need to be deleted and reformatted. Be careful you don't wipe the partition with the MFT/FAT table or you'll lose every partition.
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
alright so i can run gparted, and use the extra space to make a new drive for windows 7?max wrote:

You can make a new partition.
To make a new drive you'll need a factory

you could also use microsoft virtual PC or VMware player and run windows 7 virtually...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downlo … fault.mspx
http://www.vmware.com/download/player/
http://blogs.msdn.com/briankel/archive/ … 7-sp1.aspx
I did it on a computer with XP and it worked great... it was an older p4 2gb ram and onboard graphics... was a little sluggish... upped the ram to 768mb on the virtual machine...

Virtual PC sucks balls in comparison.
