There is also no gun on the back end of the carrier and there is not a second launching pad in the game.

First off no sea-whiz phalanx 20mm gun has ever been used in combat aboard a US Navy Ship.  They are mainly for anti shipping missile defense.  The US Navy started putting them on everything when the British Navy got there asses kicked in the falkland islands war by a few Argentine pilots with some French excocet missiles.  This was a wake up call for all Navy's around the world that anti shipping missles were a real threat and thus the Sea-Whiz was put on just about every Navy ship and we gave the British the technology.  It can be used in close quarters against aircraft but it will be a sad day when the US Navy lets a enemy aircraft in close enough to a carrier battle group that it needs the Sea-Whiz to take it out!
