The "press any key to boot from CD" won't appear, and the fact that the win is pirated might be the problem?

Same. I was playing on it with an ASUS F5R with a 2.0GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 512MB ATi 3650 (iirc) and it was doing nicely. The computer only got like a 3.8 Windows experience thing on the Aero Glass feature, but I imagine just playing with the settings would raise that. But the computer booted into Vista nice and quickly, loaded everything up smoothly. It's really not bad IF your system can handle it.

But that was Vista's biggest thing: the graphics required from the computer just aren't there on your average machine. You need something better than average to use the Aero look smoothly.
