You can also order engines from auto parts stores (usually rebuilt engines). I don't know if the large chains have them, but around here there are a few smaller auto parts stores that will order quality engines.
No he didn't ... he said "dealerships" ... You'll pay two times the price at a dealership over an auto parts store.FatherTed wrote:

Dealerships - New parts, sometimes rebuilt, expensive
Auto Parts Stores - New parts, rebuilt parts, reasonable price
Junk Yards - Used parts scavenged off junkers ... best price but quality can be hit or miss. Personally, I wouldn't buy an engine off a junk yard.
The warranties I've gotten from the parts stores are as good as the dealership. But, then again, I don't trust the large chains. I've worked just with the smaller parts stores that have had good quality transmissions & engines.Reciprocity wrote:
dealership engines are almost always reman units from a third party-only real advantage is the warranty
parts store engines are 99% reman units from the cheapest of the cheap suppliers-little if any real warranty
wrecker engines are good if you're on a tight budget. they're usually 1/2-1/3 the cost of a reman. but no real warranty. the newer the application, the better your chances of a decent engine
