Total noob when it comes to this, Where can i buy one? the dealer or should i look for shops or where else?

Believe it or not scrapyards are not a bad place to ask. They sometimes get cars that have been rear-ended and written off that way, so they occasionally get perfectly fine engines.
Dealerships will definitely have what you want, but it's going to cost you.
Pick up a few auto- classified magazines too, you might luck out and find a listing.

You can also order engines from auto parts stores (usually rebuilt engines). I don't know if the large chains have them, but around here there are a few smaller auto parts stores that will order quality engines.

if you're looking for cheap try a wrecking yard. otherwise, any full service shop will access to volume rebuilders which aren't too expensive as long as you've got a core.

tomato/tomato etc. friend of mine who's in the auto trade/modification scene swears by buying from tuner shops, i don't know what it's like over there but over here there's loads of private garages aimed at single brands/companies, and he says they're really well priced.

dealership engines are almost always reman units from a third party-only real advantage is the warranty
parts store engines are 99% reman units from the cheapest of the cheap suppliers-little if any real warranty
wrecker engines are good if you're on a tight budget. they're usually 1/2-1/3 the cost of a reman. but no real warranty. the newer the application, the better your chances of a decent engine

The warranties I've gotten from the parts stores are as good as the dealership. But, then again, I don't trust the large chains. I've worked just with the smaller parts stores that have had good quality transmissions & engines.Reciprocity wrote:

also, buy one or two popular car magazines, and look at the ads in the back or throughout the magazine, ive picked up some really good things looking through those magazines
