srsly uninstall mcafee totally. dont just disable it, get rid of it completely. so many problems are solved when i uninstall AV garbage from people's computers at work. as long as you have windows defender, and you use firefox, you don't have to worry.

I dont have firefox, i use ms explorer. Which is a sorry excuse for a browser. How much risk does this put me at if i dont use Firefox with no AV? Ive got a brand new $2,500 computer and i dont want to see it go down the tubes.steelie34 wrote:

i've found AVG to be pretty easy on your PC, doesn't seem to piss much offMorbid_Hunger wrote:

Ok, i signed up for the OpenDNS, disabled windows firewall, unistalled my AV, and then rebooted. Tried to run battlefield, and i still get the error message
oh no... i'm really not sure what else can be causing the problem. i re-read all your posts, and there is maybe one other thing you can try. disable UAC and try to run it again. go here for instructions: http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
Ok, ill give this a try, as a last resort. Unless something comes along that just screams "this will fix my problem!", then im going to lay down my blade and accept defeat.steelie34 wrote:

well, you could always downgrade to XP...Morbid_Hunger wrote:

Unfortuntly I dont have the funds to support the purchase of a $100 operating system. >< However, if it means playing BF2 again, i will find get the money to do just that, even if it means selling myselfsteelie34 wrote:

lol even EA is somewhat stumped with this, tech support wrote back to me today.
"Due to the nature of your issue, more time is required for investigation. I apologize for any prolonged delays this might cause, but please rest assured that we are trying to handle your issue in a timely manner. During this time, you may still update your incident with additional information that might help us resolve your issue without causing any additional delay."
So ive decided to get xp, depending on what answers i get from this question. A buddy of mine told me that alot of new drivers are made only for Vista, meaning i cant run them on xp. That is what is holding me back right now. A couple of others have said thats a load of bull, but if i downgrade will i still be able to put new drivers on my computer?

You should be OK with drivers on XP, if anything you're more likely to have driver issues with vista than XP.
I wouldn't pay for XP when it's so easy to torrent for free, PM me if you need help getting it.

Try wiping Vista and starting clean. We had major issues with Vista, reinstalled it and everything work's fine now.
Well, my dad teaches collage and he has access to free keys for xp, as long as its "work related", so im set there. Thanks for the offer though bro. Vista is such a hassle dude, this is really how bad it is. People get it, and then downgrade to xp what a shame.I'm Jamesey wrote:

Before you down grade, try the fresh Vista install. It sounds like the factory install was bad, that is 90% of the problems their. I am still using XP because I am not going to buy a new OS just to have it.
my two cents... i use vista ultimate 64 and never had a bf2 problem. having said that, i have more issues with my 8800 gtx CTD'ing than anything else. but XP is still king among gaming OS's and you will be better off in the long run using xp. forget vista, wait until win7 is released before upgrading.
