Only issue here is that you need to sink quite a lot of cash into the board, cpu and memory to get into i7.  Not leaving much for the rest of your build

P2 for sure in that price range... do you absolutely want DDR3 or is DDR2 fine?

Nah, it's about the same now.

Best AMD board is one of these (one's DDR3 and the other is DDR2):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131361

And the best AMD CPU at the moment is the Deneb 940:

The only huge difference is the DDR3 RAM, and that's <$100 difference really.

Something like that and pick the case you like best out of what max listed.

i thought the phenom 2 had to have ddr3
if not then ill stick with a fast set of ddr2
whatever you guys think would be the best choice

and dill thats way over
i cant do 1200
and i dont need a heatsink i have a cnps 9500AT and i wanna try to use this if i can (even if i have to buy a converter for the mobo)

No, the current PH2 chips run on the AM2+ platform, which uses DDR2. Sometime later this year, the AM3 chips are coming out which will run on DDR3. To my knowledge, the current PH2 chips won't be able to use the DDR3.

The CNPS9500 is shit for quad cores, trust me. Grab the Sunbeam Tech Core Contact Freezer, it's fairly cheap (like $30) and it cools very very well. I have one, and my OC'ed 4800+ never gets over 40*C @ 100% usage.

For DDR2 RAM, any of these will do fine:

Add a cheap sata dvd drive to that if its still to much i dont think itll get any cheaper.
Edit: Use above cpu cooler.

Don't get that DFI 790FX. My friend has one, and it is EXTREMELY picky about RAM.

The Deneb 940 isn't compatible with that motherboard. Also, that CPU cooler is a serious waste of money. If you're going to spend that much, get a Thermalright TRUE 120.

Otherwise, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835207004

didn't want to bother me eh?  i appreciate it.  but cisco is pretty boring so i'll take a stab at it.

I had a CNPS9500 on my 4800+. It did a poor job and temps were 50-55*C at load. I then got my Core Contact Freezer, and now temps are 40*C at load. It's also way cheaper, and comes with very good thermal paste (TX-2).

It is quite large though.
