Mark Bowden is easy to read. Blackhawk Down or Killing Pablo.
It's historical, but written in an easy to read style. Makes early Tom Clancy seem like a dry history book.
Other authors with a similar style (historical, but written like a good fiction novel)
Steve Coll - Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden... and The Bin Ladens
Google Books preview
David G. McCullough - 1776

Just don't bring Camus' Resistance, Rebellion, and Death on the plane.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:
The Stranger by Albert Camus is a light read and only a little over 100 pages long.
Those are good. Along with Pendragon and Robert J Sawyer's books, they are incredible.War Man wrote:

good luck finding it at an airport.

Ok, I just got back from the library. Their hours are shit 10-2 today and closed tomorrow.
Their selection is also pretty small. Splinter Cell's checked out and I couldn't find any other Tom Clancy novels.
I guessed right...every Watchmen book in the city is checked out.
The Stranger was checked out.
And the rest of the books suggested were at other branches.
I ended up with Skeleton Coast by Clive Cussler and The Broker by John Grisham.

I have a winner for you: Homeland by Sam Lipsyte.
It's about a 30-something-year-old high school graduate who writes submissions to his alumni newsletter to "be the Eraser Angel". He wants to erase the negative thoughts of the world, yet cannot speak anything but the negative. It's a coming of age story for the 21st century done in the confessional style. It's won a lot of awards, shortlisted on the New York Times best books of 2005. Amazingly bawdy stuff. He fantasises about the girls from high school in their jazz leg warmers and jerks of all day.
