I still dont understand what there is to be explained. Macs use the same hardware as Windows PC's/laptops?

A Core 2 Duo is a Core 2 Duo whether its in a macbook or a HP laptop.

Exactly.

But, still, for some arty/muso types, it has to be a mac.

Actually, Adobe products DO run faster and better on a Mac.

That's purely due to the OS and the difference is pathetically small compared the the price difference.

Well all of the Adobe products I use work fine and are very quick and responsive on my PC, so I can't imagine there's a difference worth having a Mac over.

Actually, they don't. That is simply untrue.

They all run in Carbon and Carbon is utter shite. They are planning to release one in Cocoa later, but currently Adobe products run better on Windows platforms and if using big multi-layered files, then they run best on a 64-bit platform (unsupported on Mac, since Carbon is 32-bit only).

Why?

Most people seem to know better than to argue with me about Macs.....

It's been 64-bit since launch. But there are two types of Apple program; Carbon and Cocoa (they can use POSIX UNIX apps and Java apps too). Carbon is old, shit and 32-bit (dates back to pre-OSX days), Cocoa is new fancy and 64-bit. Adobe make their apps for Mac in Carbon. They have said they will change eventually, when they can be bothered.

i have a mac book pro 2008. yes there are issues out there but for the most part , its worth every hard earned dime. Pro's are good for photo editing, web design and any of your "hobbies or job related activities" mac OS lepoard is in my mind, the best OS out there in the market, and i am not saying this becuase of any fanboyism that people might be thinking. i have a lot of stuff in my mac book pro and not one bit of slowdown. vista in a way can do more than mac os, but it runs like molases in the slightest load.

people may say that a pro and a dell laptop of comparable specs work just as fast and as efficiently. here is were the apple computer shines, its the software capabilities /utilites is just amazing. the biggest quam i have with apple is compatability and very questionable design decisions. apple will not dominate over windows due to obvious reasons in the market, but if microsoft thinks that apple is no competition, well there going to get a huge reality check.

No single OS is the best. Every OS has their strong and their weak points.

Except OSX, cause it sucks donkey cock
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

So is every other PC made in the last 3 years.

Sure, Apples used to be well known for their photo editing and media capabilites, but the fact of the matter is, all those programs now run in Windows just as well as in Mac OSX. At this point, it really is a question of how much you are willing to spend and which you prefer. No more, no less.

But a PC is nothing more than a personal computer. And guess what? A Mac is also a PC. The only reason the Mac vs PC thing exists is because Apple couldn't really come out and name "Windows" in its ads without risking legal action from Microsoft.
