Well, since I'm likely getting a new vid card, figured why not get a new monitor!  Anyone have a brand preference?  My Samsung 17 has never failed me, but would like a 20 now.

ASUS:

Think w/ my current setup and adding a new vid card I could play at 1680?  Looking at GTS250 or GTX260.

2GB Corsair XMS
250GB Barracuda hdd
NVidia 7800GToc pci-x

I think my brother has the Asus, and for a cheap monitor it's great. As ig said though, get a Samsung, although you'll probably pay a premium for the extra two inches, so just get the 20. Samsung may be more expensive though.

If you don't care too much about image quality those two will do perfectly.

As for the GPU a GTX260 does vastly outperform the GTS250 - which is just a rebranded and die shrunk G92 8800GTS. Both will do fine on older games, but for new ones you'll need a GTX260 to play them at high settings

So other brands offer better quality?  If so, what exactly does that involve?  Better response time, etc?

Better colour representation, better viewing angles, just all round better quality. Usually, you do get the odd one that's more expensive for no particular reason.

I've got a 19" Acer and a 19" Westinghouse... I prefer the Westinghouse over the Acer.

Aren't 22" LCDs using the same resolution as a 20"? So then you would have an image that is stretched across a larger area. Poorer image quality and paying extra for it? Why?

I love how some companies price their stuff ...

I just looked at New Egg, and the Samsung 2043BWX is more expensive than the 2243BWX ... how does that work out?

it's not like running 640 x 480 on a 21" crt.  yeah the screen is bigger so the pixels are bigger but i doubt you'd notice.  I personally like having the larger screen surface.

GTX260 arrived today .... my case is too small.   There's enough length to accommodate the card, but the hardware that holds my hdd is just high enough that it won't allow the card to fully mesh into the slot. *sigh*
