I know there are a billion and one threads on this subject, and I've searched, and I've looked, but the other threads are for people that have monies.

I have exactly $100 to spend. I need the best possible player for this much money.

-As long as it plays MP3, and possibly MP4, I'm happy
-I know $100 won't get be superior audio quality, but still, it needs to sound good
-Don't care about touch/button control
-Must have display screen with file/song browsing
-4GB absolute minimum, though would prefer larger
-I don't have a brand preference, as I don't really know anything about MP3 players

So remember that I'm complete noob here, but these caught my eye... any good?

They don't have very good reviews, but I take that with a grain of salt because usually Newegg reviewers are a bunch of dumbasses.

The sandisk sansa fuze is the best sounding cheap mp3 player, has good battery life, and is to your specification. You can also expand its memory with a micro SDHC card. IMO get a fuze.

I'd also look into the creative zen series.  The 4 gig is about $80 and has an SDHC slot for added storage capacity (I know it supports at least 8 GB cards because my wife has one).

Hmm, I think I may go with this. After reading some reviews I've learned that the iRiver doesn't combine external and internal memory, but the Sansa Fuze does. This allows me to buy the 4GB model and then grab another 4GB microSD card after I fill it up.

Still open to suggestions.

Dont go by newegg reviews alone, half of the time they are from idiots that dont know how to plug the thing in

Yeah, like I said, I take Newegg reviews with a grain of salt. Sometimes I can find intelligent reviewers who more or less confirm my suspicions, but most of the negative reviewers are simply dumbasses.

I had an iRiver a long time ago and had some problems (would freeze). I think that was about ten years ago though . I'm sure their product has improved.

I got a Sansa Fuze 2GB + SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC card + some transparent protective case for like $70.

Amazon ftw.
