I just got a quick demonstration of the Autonet Mobile.  You plug it in to your car and you become a mobile hotspot.  Works pretty good, I was able to connect with my iphone and browse the web at faster speeds than Edge network (3G service in my area is nonexistent).  $30 dollars a month with 1gig limit (A Booooo) and $60 for 5gig.  You could also use it as your home service as well.

Sense. This sentence fragment makes none.

It is 3G right? Therefore you have 3G service in your area.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

That's actually quite expensive because you can buy USB connected 3G via SIM, essentially unlimited, for around £60 for a year. (02)

I suppose that is useful if you are often on the road for extended periods of time ... but then you look at mobile 3G USB modems and it becomes a lot less practical. The only way this looks viable is you have more than one computer/device in a car that needs WLAN to get onto the net. But then, Novatel and Huawei are also both coming out with 3G modems with built-in wifi. Throw your choice of SIM card into one of those and that's much nicer (and cheaper).

The problem is, though, is that all of this great and affordable in Europe but total shit in the US.
