Hey guys,

I need a DAW primarily for live, multi-track recording and post-production (it would go to CD press for thousands of copies) ... and, there are just tons of different options.   I don't want to spend the bucks for Pro Tools or Sonar (I know both are good), but I will if there are not any other options.   I've already got the studio, mics, mixers and other equipment ... just need the software.

So, I'm searching for a good value, and I've already rejected Reaper and Cubase.  We don't use loops ... well, probably won't use them much.

So, any advice or experience?

Personally, I only have major experience with ProTools.

Digital Performer (MOTU, i believe) is good too.

I'm not an expert but I hear they say Pro Tools & Nuendo are the better ones ... Sonar I've never heard about ...

Nuendo is expensive, and the company has a horrible reputation for customer support and buggy code.  I think most people feel that Sonar (owned now by Roland) has passed ProTools, but it still costs $500 to $700.

I'm hoping that there is something out there in the under $250 range.   But, I'll probably go with Sonar if I can't find any alternatives.

Yea, not much in the "pro" market under $250...

I think you're looking at Garage Band or Audacity, lol.

edit: oh snap, ProTools M-Powered is $250... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PTMPv8Full/

If you're not willing to be a dirty thief, unfortunately you're very limited in terms of pro tools.

Yeah, I'm not going to steal it.

I'm still considering Reaper (which seems to be an inexpensive pro editing DAW), but it was pissing me off last night in a demo recording session.
