I could probably get either.
Which would be better for BF2 and newer games? Is either good enough for BF2? I suck at tech stuff.

http://shop2.frys.com/product/5807833?s … IN_RSLT_PG(I am leaning towards this one, only 100 dollars diff.)

http://shop2.frys.com/product/5805903?s … IN_RSLT_PG(Though with this I could get nicer monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.)

Which would you pick, and what else should I get??
btw, I know almost nothing about tech stuff, plz post links to anything or the exact name so I can search Fry's, Newegg, others)

Also, what are some good US tech buying sites?

(links plz)

Both of these will suck for gaming. Only integrated graphics. Newegg is a good online shop

If you give us a budget we can make a list of components for you. If you don't think you can assemble the PC yourself all local tech shops should do it for you for a small fee

both of those comps look to have onboard(integrated grpahics) and probably wont play BF2 at all...
if they have a pci-x slot you could buy an aftermarket graphics card...  You could build your own for not much more than those 2 computers...
a great processor/ati 4850/4870/4-6 gb of ram/650 watt psu/decent case/dvd burner/motherboard/
I or someone on this site can price you out a comp made with parts...
There are some good comps premade that you could buy also... Ibuypower has some configurable comps
Heres on i priced out with Vista(you can choose XP also)
http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/conf … 224#header

If you want to build one i can help you as well as a few other people on this site...
check out newegg... you can build something that can play BF2 maxed and most new games for 600-900 bucks

You really shouldn't call PCI express pci-x. PCI-x is a whole other standard - it's a extension of regular PCI. Use PCI-e or PCIe instead

I've been building my own computers for a while. At least, long enough to remember having to organize IDE ribbon (not cable), as well as having to have the floppy disks in the right order for install.

And In all those years, I've never seen a single damn thing ever plug into one of those since PCI x1 slots. What the hell are they for?

Thanks for the tip
Budget: around $400-600(maybe $700-750 including monitor, hopefully) I have keyboard an mouse, not the best, but decent enough for me to deal with 'til I get more cash. I have the Microsoft wireless kb+ mouse set thing.(http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp … 4694191939(older version of this, maybe even the same, couple years old though)
I also have some crappy speakers, but might buy some cheap headphones(also microsoft, they are on sale) http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.js … cat0500000

Sound cards, NIC's, SATA controllers, etc. Anything that needs more bandwidth than standard PCI.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
