Recommend me a wireless router

Looking to set up a home wireless network in my apartment here in Vienna. I get my Internet through cable, if that's necessary.

I don't need N-standard, just 100 Mbit LAN and G-standard on the WLAN. Going to be hooking my Acer laptop up to the router via Ethernet and then my EEE PC through WLAN. It's going to need to be WPA-secured, too. I know WEP is piss easy to crack and WPA less so (though still pretty easy if you're determined). WPA2 would also be nice, but certainly not a necessity.

I'd set a budget, but I really don't know what quality would cost me. So if you guys have a router that you haven't had any issues with at all, that's fabulous. Thanks guys!!!

Netgear WG602. It's an older model, but it still has WPA2 and all that shiz.

Hmm, prolly want a 4-port, though eh?

There's but one wireless router to consider: Linksys WRT54GL.

It's proved to be the best router on the market, over and over and over.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It'd be nice, but not a total necessity. In the fall I intend on building a PC, and that will be wired and then both laptops will be wireless.

I've looked at that one, but there are people talking about Tomato firmware and Linux on it and whatnot and tbh, it confuses me. I remember my parents had a DI-524 back home in the States that worked nicely and it was on every day, 24/7. I've been toying with buying that, but I don't know. Once again, if I can get better quality, I'll take the quality.

So care to elaborate on the WRT54GL???? If you have the time, anyway.

The Tomato firmware is very easy to use. You basically download a file and follow a small guide. It's as easy to set up as an router, but you have more settings than you'll ever need, and a machine that never, ever crashes.

DI-524's been replaced with DIR-300 btw. (in our market anyway).

No bridging though, dunno if the 524 had that anyway. One-button-connect and all that but.

I think I might go with that Linksys router. I've been doing some reading and everyone loves it and I have yet to read a bad review about it. Might give it a shot.

My old DI-524 had terrible range, and it crapped out on me after 3 years. Bought a WRT54GS, excellent router. Go with a WRT54Series.

Fuck the DI-524. Mine has been shit from day one. I'm running a WRT54G and a WRT54GV2 on DD-WRT and they've been rock solid for 2.5 years and 3 months, respectively. 3rd party software is so incredibly powerful and reliable (I speak for DD-WRT, but I've heard Tomato is a little more user friendly).

I would get the WRT54GL as Freezer suggested, but it's not too big of a difference if you can't (IIRC it just has more RAM).
