Have the industry listen to the two in front of cameras and see who can pick out the difference in sound. It won't happen though. Only one of the parties has anything to lose.

Monster cables are a joke, can't really be compared to something that's based upon removing data.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Seriously. This audiophilia thing is just the new 'in thing' fad for you techgeeks to sink your grubby mitts into; a few months ago none of you would shut the fuck up about that awesome philanthropy F@H thing all you wonderful altruists do, nowadays all you want to talk about is the awesome fidelity of your multi-million dollar sound-system and how none of the uneducated masses 'get it' because they haven't experienced anything nearly as awesome. The hilarious thing is that none of you can actually afford a proper audio-setup, instead you just spout knowledge and references from shit you've read/masturbated to on other audiophile websites/forums, in an attempt to imitate and contrivedly posture the genuine audionuts that for some reason feel compelled to spend £10,000 on an audiosystem for their shitty mp3's. It's just the flavour of the month for you techgeeks; the latest form of making yourselves feel technologically and geekishly superior to the rest of the poor and ignorant BF2s computer community. Move on to the next gimmick already, it's embarassing for you. I preferred it when Freezer talked about his batteries rather than his impressive one-shelf music collection, and when .Sup was just an average techy instead of an uber-leet-audio-fanatic-with-sublime-home-audio-system-that-your-uneducated-philistine-ears-simply-cannot-appreciate.

I'm all for music. I love it, it makes me feel great. I think this FLAC stuff is bollocks, though.

I don't care too much for quality. I care for the songs I'm listening to and its lyrics and rhythm and what it makes me feel like.

Way too many pointless arguments in this thread.

@ Link, Uzi isn't arguing. He's presenting an opinion. It pretty much says what you said, but in a verbose and abusive manner which, given the rest of the thread and its content, I find amusing.

The quality argument has some validity; liking music is one thing, liking music at the quality it was recorded and intended to be listened to is also important. Some of the people in this thread though (namely those that I criticize and ridicule) advance this principle to the point of absurdity. I'd rather spend £10,000 on a hi-fi and vinyl collection than buy pointless preamps and surround set-ups with which to play my shitty digital mp3's.

Thanks for the rating, but I don't care, you are all fucks, universal truth. I come here for my own entertainment and amusement only, not to impress or play up to any other expectations. FFLink, for someone that's supposedly pretty old and pretty intelligent, you're just obtusely stupid. I'm annoying but then you basically rephrase my argument and repost it? Your redundant tautology is annoying.

I download in FLAC because I can. Not because it's 10x better than mp3 or because it's just damn awesome. I only do it because I have the space and the time. It's also useful if I want to transcode to several different qualities ( like v0, 320 etc ).

It's up to you whether you think FLAC is better or not, most of the time you wont be able to tell a difference.

Also, who cares?

Good idea. Settle this the easy way. One of you go make a thread, a third party will host 2 files of the same song and you should be able to tell us which is FLAC. I'm not sure where you could embed a FLAC file, but I'm sure somebody will know how/where. How would you keep them from just checking the file properties? Tech geek needed.
