My new laptop came with voice recognition software - and it blows, hard.

They make you go through a big long tutorial making it look easy, and pretty much using your voice as an activation to go to the next step rather than choose an option. After closing the tutorial and trying it myself, the dictation is simply god awful. Here's a paragraph from what I clearly articulated right next to the microphone.

Talking To a computer banking model and king that speech recognition sucks up to the top record in use of you saw you saw you stopped at talking to a computer is all four change all four change all four 44444 from 123456789 Iran is garbage and cable is it's a Spot fish and absolute garbage that engineering as a spot spy retail from then if the US 2 S DS 2 S D as in: F O's NF 2 S are learn and I just generally higher thinks stocks
I don't have a strong accent at all.

Anyone have the same software or better? My truck has sort of the same thing, it seems to work a lot better though.

I'll be honest...I can't make heads or tails of what's in that paragraph.  I've had to deal with the software before, and it always did seem a little odd.  One trick that tends to work though, is to slow down quite a bit and really enunciate.

To make the MS voice recognition software work, you need a good mic and five hours of training. One training run won't work.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I don't plan on, but honestly the pronunciation recognition is awful.

I love playing around with it by trying different accents and saying words I know it cannot recognize to see what comes up.

It is pretty much useless though.

Try the word "opiates". Almost everybody I know gets a different result.
