Build my rig. The Dell supercomputer crapped out -again.  I'm fucking livid.  I power the POS up and nothing but whirring fans. No bios, no blue screen, nothing... I'm thinking motherboard issues.  After a few hard drives and a video card, I'm fucking over Dell....

So I'm building my own.  I'm a bit behind the in the tech times.  So could I please have bit of knowledge?  I'll spend no more than 2500usd on components (not including the monitor).  Thanks all.

replace the ram with 1600MHz ones, use 2xGTX260 (cooler and quieter) and a noctua nh-u12p (better performance) instead and you've got an awesome PC

go balls to the walls with the CPU HS.  get a Rampage II Extreme for that budget.  hell, get the i7 940.  and grab another 1TB while you're at it.

still under budget?  add another GTX 295 and grab a PC Power and Cooling 1KW PSU or something like it.

....as you can see, I'd shit myself if I had that much money to spend.

edit: lap your TRUE Copper pls.

Don't forget to save some money for a fan or air conditioner. The amount of heat that thing'll produce should warm your room up.

no need to spend your money on a Rampage II unless you're going LN2 or something crazy.

Instead spend the leftover money on a big monitor and an a nice 5.1 system

What are you going to use the comp for... Gaming... Graphics... rendering scenes etc?
You could build a crazy fast computer for 2500... heck you could build a pretty stout comp for 1000-1200 bucks...
and use the rest on bigass monitor or a vacation...lol

You'll get a decent 5.1 system for that money, but for a decent 7.1, you should be spending more than his whole budget.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

^previous suggestions are good.

however if your monitor isnt great (like a low end 22" or or worse) i would personally invest in a new monitor and forget about Sli GTX 295's or unessessary expenses. in my opinion, when your spending that much, there comes a point where any more is practically useless.

if you have a good monitor (medium 24" or better) feel free to blow all your money on a EPIC rig.

agree. $130 5.1 speakers and a $160 sound card does it for me... none of this thousands of dollars stuff

That's merely because you haven't heard/owned anything better. Let's not make this into "one of those threads".

really no point in spending that much on a computer. you can get a really nice one for half that price

finny he's right. unless he's a proper hardcore techy, he doesn't need an i7, it's total overkill. Spend about half the budget on the PC, and save the rest. Just because you can spend the budget, doesn't mean you need to.

no, and i wont until you can show me that its noticeably better than my ocd e8400 and justifies the $400 in extra costs (good luck lol)

@panzer, just because thats his budget, it doesnt mean that he should spend all of it. i mean unless hes some rich ass like max who enjoys throwing his money away...

Quite frankly I couldn't care less what anyone buys. I have used enough hardware to base my suggestions on my own experiences. Have you ever had i7 rig to try around? or even quad?

And P5Q SE belongs to budget builds. period.

500€ more than that c2d rig and the performance difference is more than the price difference. 1.5k$

EDIT: woops. change that board to sli one from gigabyte. GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI  10$ more.
