Seems the next game could also be on PS3 and XBawx 360, good news for me. Meltdown averted

the sequel to the game PCs could barely play, on consoles that had no chance of playing the first one? Good luck with that.

Well considering that the footage in that vid is taken from the PS3 and XBox 360, your argument is invalid.

I disagree. If the graphics are ridiculously kick-ass-awesome gameplay flaws can be easily forgiven.

As long as they make this new crying engine efficient so you don't need some super-computer to run it all will be good.

as time goes by they are able to create cooler effects with less stress on the components... Crysis is a beautiful looking game but the gameplay is pretty bad... and the hacking killed the game quickly... will be interesting to see when betas come out

Crysis would have been better off if they went with upward scalability like Far Cry, rather than release a game nobody could really play smoothly, but downward scalability for consoles is a must if you're developing game engines anymore.

Except not, this entire thread is pretty much saying that it will be able to run on low end machines, like consoles.

how can that kind of graphics run on a low end machine?
are you saying that a low end pc like i don't know AMD3500+ 1.93GHZ, 512GB RAM, Nvidia 8300 will run that?
I HIGHLY REALLY DOUBT SO.
Lets face it, Crytek even said in an interview about Crysis that the game would run on low settings on a machine that was able to run Farcry at medium settings. I had a machine that ran Far cry on medium and Crysis wouldn't even start. We all know, when Crysis 3 comes out we will have to update our cards to top range ones to run it smoothly at med high/high settings.

This video had terrible lag. If it's from a console, it makes perfect sense. That said, it doesn't look that much better. That's actually a really good thing, as we're reaching a peak.

@Gameplay/Graphics: Yes, if the graphics are cool gameplay flaws can be forgotten. But, if it's a piss poor game, not even photorealism will save it. It's just more explicitly a tech demo. Since when was the Cry series anything more then a glorified tech demo? Gameplay wise, they were decent and entertaining but it was never the focus.

Saying, yes. Proving, no. OP Vid is hardly evidence.

Looks rather uninspiring this time around; it lacks the 'ZOMG' factor of the FarCry/Crysis incarnation. Just looks like a console-port to be honest so they can create Killzone-esque games in wide island-like settings. Yawn. Flog another dead horse already!

I think getting graphics comparable with Crysis running on the consoles is a really impressive achievement really. I'd hardly call it flogging a dead horse. Now a massive amount of people will be able to enjoy the games (and graphics), instead of a select few.

Not only that but if enough developers pick up on the software then then some really incredible games could be made. Sure for us PC gamers this engine is basically a sidegrade from what we've seen so far, but it's not for us.

So why would we give a shit?

Do I post on a console gaming Forum? Do I discuss console games? Do I care about technological 'advancements' that are paradoxically aimed at the criminally poor fucks that can't even be bothered to fork out upwards of £500.00 for a capable gaming machine? The PC gaming market is still statistically the biggest one; the most popular; the most lucrative of them all. Why should I celebrate and be glad that game development companies are taking the cheap-options, cutting on their costs and capitalising the easy-sell in order to peddle 2 year old tripe to 13 year olds with PS3's that their daddies bought them? The non-linear open-environment island/desert/tropicali-wank game has been done to death already on the PC, or at least it seems so when I think about the utter tedium of those so called 'infinitely open, replayable adventure shooters'. Am I going to be glad because Crytek are basically making the decision to repackage and resell the same shit to a cheaper and more failsome market? Because I'm not. The PC gaming industry needs love, I'm tired of seeing PC titles/technologies/concepts being bastardised and downgraded for shoddy ports- and even more so when the horrid 'influence' of console gaming design permeates its way into the decent lands of PC gaming (yes, I am looking at you, new Battlefield).

tl;dr: AWWW HELLL NO.
