Well the way I asked my prom date out was after some sort of date/hang out. I think we went for a walk or something then I walked her home and asked her to prom. If you are simple now you leave room for improvement in the future.

I just thought up a good reason to ask her out. If you do, it's kinda a given that she'll go to prom with you, so you don't need to ask her. Whereas, if you ask her to the prom, and then ask her out later, you've got to do it twice. You know, time, effort, all that stuff.
