Argo, you seem to be getting really hung up on this whole being funny thing as a way to pick up chicks or be successful in life.

I'm fortunate enough to fall into a "funny / witty" category, but it's not all glitz and glamor. I've held some shitty jobs, including a fastfood job that I can't get away from (even worked there last summer, and I'm a senior in college!) I've only had one girlfriend, and that lasted about 3 weeks. I have no clue how to pick up chicks, I don't know how to start conversations. (Although in my defense [and to make myself not feel so guilty], I've had many girls get crushes on me, problem is I don't like them back, but that's another thread). Plus, it's not like those people that you see who are funny/witty are like that all the time and are the most social people ever. I'm only at my funniest when I'm around people I know well; for everyone else, I either keep to myself, or if I do say something, they usually wind up thinking I'm offensive or just weird. At parties, I'm the guy who stands in the corner not saying anything and only talking to one or two people.

So don't worry if you're not funny. There are plenty of other strengths that you have and other advantages you have over other people. You just have to find them and exploit them instead of getting hung up on other people's strengths

It's a lot harder to be witty, funny or spontaneous if you're trying really hard, and it comes across in conversation and that's usually when someone will take the piss.

My friends think I'm funny but I can't really see it, I just say what I'm thinking, so either I find myself unfunny or I'm just too dumb to get my own jokes
