Here tell me the points you brought up with your parents and their rebuttal and the points they brought up and I'll think up an effective argument for you.

I think we may just have found a way around this filter. If you can get to sites by entering the IP directly, the filter may actually just redirect to their DNS server instead of doing any filtering.

try pinging (open a command line, type ping[space]ipadress) any of these DNS servers
    * 4.2.2.1
    * 4.2.2.2
    * 4.2.2.3
    * 4.2.2.4
    * 4.2.2.5
    * 4.2.2.6
    * 208.67.222.222
    * 208.67.220.220
    * 156.154.70.1
    * 156.154.71.1
    * 67.138.54.100

if you can connect to any of them, go to your control pannel --> network connections --> right click your lan connection --> status --> properties --> select "internet protocol (depending on your windows version select version 4 not 6) --> properties --> use the following DNS server and type in the the DNS server that works. Hit OK. You might need to reboot before this works, not sure.

When I do this it says destination point unreachable, any ideas?

Sounds blocked to me.

Something else you can try is downloading a firmware update from a router (any company router), or even for the filter, then connecting to said filter's control panel (I assume your parents think they can do nothing and the box will maintain itself), "update" the firmware of the box, cutting power to it halfway through.  Or if it's the wrong firmware, you don't need to do that.  This will render said box completely unresponsive.

*Provided the box doesn't have some insanely paranoid hardware restore to prevent exactly that.

If you only have the home filter box, what's to stop you buying a cheap switch and swapping out the circuit boards inside the filter box? It looks very much the same shape as a normal Linksys router.

That will just make it more blocked
