Okay, so.

How much of an improvement is the Geforce GTX 280 from the Geforce GTX 260?

The 280 for 340 after MIR

The 260 for 250 after MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814143175

Is the 280 worth the extra money? When i could spend that money on getting an E8600 rather than an E8400, or possibly put it towards a 10k raptor HDD.

Which would be a better investment?

EVGA and BFG have the best warranty and support for nv cards. Just remember to register the card withing 30 days.

All reference based cards are build in same place, different brands just slap their own stickers and bundles.

280GTX isn't worth over 260GTX for that price, 275 is awsm in the middle.

And never even consider E8600 ove E8400, that shit is just ripping off. Unless you are cooling with LN2 you won't notice any difference in their overclockability.

Hmm, really?
So i should save the 100 dollars and go with the e8400?

Should i use the 100 to put towards a better fan/heatsink for overclocking the 8400?

Can you recommend a relatively cheap fan/heatsink

Ive never OCed before and i dont know how to, so i doubt ill be doing anything hardcore.

I have this 100 dollars extra now that im going with the 8400, im trying to decide where to spend it

Also what will i need for thermal paste and stuff? i wanna have all the little stuff i need for when this arrives. The CPU is retail so will it come with good paste and stuff that i need? or should i buy it seperate with the fan/heatsink ?

or tell me about any other pastes or little things im not thinkin ill need THANK YOU

Unless your a dead set nvidia fan boy or you like to fold Id seriously consider a hd 4890 similar performance and it overclocks well.

Freezer 7 Pro is currently the best bang for buck cooler. Good enough for a nice OC and pretty cheap.

It comes with pre-applied thermal paste. (=good for one use, if you remount the cooler again, you'll need more paste such as Arctic Silver 5)

You guys have been a wicked fucking awesome help, karma for all.

Heres what i've settled on:

(For some reason they want to give me the 15ft cable for free?? LOL)

http://i44.tinypic.com/95tzsw.jpg

E8400
OCZ 8GB Ram
GTX 275
A decent mobo? (better one for the price somewhere?) Also, it says it supports Crossfire but does that automatically mean it supports Dual Nvidia cards?

Already have a HDD

I would recommend Asus P5Q Pro. CF boards don't unfortunately support SLi (except the new X58 boards for i7).

For PSU I recommend Corsair HX620W, which is one of the best quality PSUs I know. (even better quality than the 750w Corsairs)

8GB ram is overkill unless you are doing some serious work. (Your rest PC is not well built for that anyway)

So get 2x2GB 1066MHz CL5 kit from G.SKILL, Corsair, OCZ or A-DATA.

If i switch to the Asus Pro board then i have to get DDR2 1200 ram, theres only two options for that on Newegg, one being 55 dollar OCZ ram and its only 2gb. So i would have to get two of those so thats 100 dollars instead of 80 dollars for the 8gb ram package. Regaurdless of whether i need 8gb or not its still cheaper then 4gb of ddr2 1200.

And the Asus pro doesnt support SLi so what is the best difference between the one i had and the one you suggested, I took your recomendation for the PSU, as long as your sure thats compatible with the other stuff im getting

EDIT: just realized the other MOBO took DDR2 1200 ram also, can you recommend a board that will work with the stuff ive got, that takes RAM that costs less please?

You can run DDR2-1066 in all P5Q based boards - hell I've probs run most combinations of ram and P5Q board myself

So will this ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820227291

work with the Asus P5Q Pro suggested above? Even tho this ram is DDR2 800 and the Mobo calls for DDR2 1200

cant see where it says anything about 1066mhz??

That ram will work. 800MHz RAM will severely limit the OCability though

lemme find some good stuff get 2 of these.

Looks great

I'm not a fan of the case because the cable management is difficult to do properly. Performance is great though

Get the GTX 285 if you have the money, best performance for a SINGLE gpu card, even faster then the ATI offerings.
Get the GTS 250 if your on a tighter budget, good bang for the buck for around 250 bucks.
The new GTX 275 I dont really know about, you might want to check Tomshardware for specs and benchmarks.
GTX 280 a little old, but still very fast, plus the prices are falling so low, you should get this.
GTX 260, if you get this get the core 216, it has 24 more steam processors then the old 260.
If your really hardcore bad-ass get the GTX 295 and be set for life.

Hope that helps you man
