One thing that I have learned is if I find someone that is trying to lock onto me while I am flying, I try and find the closest enemy air.  9/10 times when they fire a missle, it will miss me entirely and hit their friendly if we are turning.  If I am going in a striaght line, it will hit me.  If Im close enough, I dont even bother with flares. 

I just get pissed off when the same guy strafe runs the runway over and over and I cant get back in the jet.  (either I get killed or he blows up the jet).

Haha i get pissed at jets all the time! coldsteevo25 was being annoying bombing the hell out of us so me and my two buddies set up three sniper rifles in the air field and took him out about about 15-20 times on the next map haha he was not very happy, and me and nomel are now proudly on his Favourite Victim of list haha!

Personally, jets are an aspect of the game that I absolutely love.  One of the things I like about BF2 is that there are so many aspects of the game that when you get bored of one thing you can move on to another.  Jets are one of those aspects of the game that I've had fun trying to get better at.

That said, I have noticed that when there is a pilot with uber skills they pretty much just own the map.  You know, the type of pilot that hits EVERYTHING they attack.  There's really no countering it because even if you do shoot him down once he's back in the air in under 30 seconds.  The best you can hope to do is stay out of the vehicles and play on foot.

And (I suppose it goes without saying) jets are the #1 unsheathed phallic device in the arsenal of the base rapist which is anoying as hell.

I shoot a missle from the ground and it doesn't even come close to hitting jets. I shoot them at helicopters that are at medium distance and the missles GO AROUND THE HELICOPTER. While I don't share your fustration, I agree completely with your summarization of the accuracy of heat-seeking missiles.

I don't think BF2 shouldn't have jets, the jets need to be changed....  F-15E and F/A-18 aren't close air support aircraft...  They fly too fast and they too lethal in the game.  The A-10 and SU-24 would be PERFECT (I work on A-10s so I'm a little biased).  The F-35 isn't bad, but I've only seen a few very skilled pilots use the hover to their advantage.  So maybe the F/A-18 only from carriers?  Get rid of the F-15E and put in A-10?  The weapons could be changed up.  Make the gun on the A-10 the primary weapon since in real life, it is and make AGM-65s launchable without the AT pod view...  Make it slow, but manuverable.  The SU-24 is the Russian CAS aircraft, mainly uses rockets and gun pods...  OH YEAH!  The damn rockets on the helos are WAY too powerful...  No way a 2.75 in rocket of ANY type can blow up a tank...  Damage maybe, but destroy, no way.

All I can say is adapt. Jets aren't that over powered, if you know how to use AA it's easy to pick them off. Or if you have YOUR planes in the air to counter the enemies, because if it's a bomber vs a fighter there's a 90% chance the fighter will win.

jets are a very powerful asset in the game, same as they are in reality. Oman, Kubra, and especially Clean Sweep....if you own the air, your team has a damn good chance of winning. however, they are a far cry from invincible. AA can take them down, if your smart about it. not to mention if your flyin a fighter-bomber, you know that every time you drop bombs, you have to go back to base to reload. so its not like they are hitting everybody out there every 10 seconds...

as for the missle coding, the constant misses, etc etc....i dont even use missles when im in the air. there are several instances of me jumpng in a fighter, keeping it on A/G mode the entire time, and half the time when your shooting down the fighter-bomber, they dont even realize its a fighter because there is no tone.

on the ground, SAM sites are usefull assets, most mostly against enemy heli's. against aircraft, they are pretty weak unless its a fighter bomber making a bomb run. a great deal of time, when im a fighter, if i hear tone on my, i start manuvering and/or dropping flares. if nothing else, it keeps me busy until im out of range, so they do have that use.

Well, jets are not always a problem. You have to adapt:

* Stay out of any vehicle (Tank, Jeep). So the jet radar won't see you. Walk only.
* Don't use a Jet to kill the enemy Jet. The other pilot is better than you.
* Never take a flag. When a flag turns gray you'll get bombed in about a few seconds.
* Best thing you can do is to hide in a building until the round is over.

Jets aren't that over powered, if you know how to use AA it's almost impossible to pick them off.
