Im talkin about high quality cameras, ones able to capture pictures of fast moving things without bluring. I wanna take pics of action sports, like BMX, and i want a camera that can auto adjust to make the best light and look of the pic.

Also, would a camera like this also take video?

Any cameras that can produce quality like this:

http://vimeo.com/4038064?pg=embed&sec=&hd=1

But that dont cost more then like 350

High speed cameras are notoriously expensive, especially if they don't have flash. I think the Canon EOS 1D, 10 FPS, or the EOS 5D mark II, 3.9 FPS, EOS 40D might be good too, 6.5 FPS.

Professional photographers and cameramen get mad dolluh.

Very high paying profession if you know your stuff and you're good at what you do. It's like saying everyone can draw pictures and everyone can write a sentence, so therefore art and literature aren't worth a buck.

I feel like literature is losing some value. I haven't heard of any novels being hailed as the new "Great American Novel" or being held to such high esteem as works like Great Expectations.

You're looking at at LEAST $800.

Edit: That's for the body alone, btw.

You'll need a good lens too.

Except for the 1.8 50mm Nikon ($150), they're roughly $600 and up for a good one.

/facepalm.

How exactly does a novel become instantly canonical?

Great Expectations? What, are you doing that shit in class now or something? Why is that your token example of a novel held in high-esteem? Has it always been held in high-esteem? Was it considered ground-breaking and highly-esteemed when it was first serialised and released? These are questions you should know to answer. James Joyce's Ulysses is the greatest novel EVAR to be honest, but it was banned and censored and slayed by reviewers for years, decades even, after its release. Only now in the truly modern world do we come to truly consider modernist and post-modernist literature as being worthy above everything else.

Keep it on topic.

Why do you need a camera like that? Are you a good photographer? By that I mean are you nearly as good as Minty?

I dont NEED a camera like that. I just want a cam to take pics while im at work (think of... a lifeguard taking pics for people on the beach then uploading them for them later - but apply it to a skatepark and you have my job)

But things are fast moving, and my current cam cant even touch it. I push the button then like 2 seconds later it clicks.

I garentee you i wont be spending that much on a camera, i was just fishing for prices.

For any photographer buffs here.

Should I buy a half decent camera soon (around $500) or wait 6-8 months and I could get anyone as expensive as I like?

its a hobby nothing more.
(sorry to hijack your thread Mitch, but its been pretty successfully trolled already lol)

Ive taken some pretty excellent photos of my brother riding his motorbike or pushbike with my crappy digital camera. I find that because i'm also a trials rider, I know exactly what his going to do, where to aim the camera, and how quickly he'll be doing it etc. tbh it just took alittle practise... the only thing that is lacking is the pro-quality as the camera isnt very good.

Oh yeah, i know when the perfect time is, but its not fun having to guess at how long its going to take for my cam to finally take a shot. If it was instant, or a few frames worth, it would be a much better outcome.

Ill stick with cam-cordering for now

Your current camera can't touch it cause the autofocus system is just shit. Even mine would have trouble with consistently tracking a guy skating. The ideal camera, for me, would be an EOS 1 Series camera. It's autofocus system has 45 focus points.. opposed to the 9 that my camera has. That camera would cost me A$5000.

But once you have the autofocus system and the rest of the camera body, you need good glass. When it comes to focusing speed and accuracy, the lenses that come bundled with the consumer DSLRs are.. well crap. Good glass can cost at least $1000-1500+ per lens.

Photography is one of those things where you do get what you pay for. And it costs a LOT for GOOD gear.

And then, if you had the gear I doubt it would be any use. It takes months.. years.. to become familiar enough with the camera system, photographic technique and post-production software to make awesome photos.

Jus' sayin'...

mcminty, for what I suspect hes going to use it for. A 450D with standard lens would suffice as a starting camera, which would still set him back $700. Buying anything 'better' is just a waste of money for most people.
