I wouldn't buy an AMD board but that's just me....

4GB RAM is plenty. No need to upgrade that.

I built a very similar system to this only last week - except that gaming wasn't a factor.

I ended up with an E5200 on an mATX Gigabyte board with 2x2GB Corsair RAM in a Coolermaster 330 case.

Very similar.....

Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I meant was that I can't find a 8800/9800 for less than 100 pounds. And the 4670 is 60.

Bestest budget case everer.

PROTIP: The 330 has a dicky power switch (push it too far and it breaks) so put a blob of hot glue behind it. Aside from that it's awsm.

Also how the fuck is a 9800 budget? Budget = integrated tbf

RAM is so cheap these days that I don't really mind. 2Gb = 20 quid, 4Gb = 30quid. In the interests of keeping it working as long as possible I'm happy to throw another tenner at it.

Update:

Since one of them is fitting downstairs in a cupboard, there are size restrictions on the case. I found the Antec NSK1380 microATX case which looks like it'd do the job perfectly. As this is going to be literally just an email and internets computer I'm going to drop the GPU and use the onboard graphics on the Gigabyte G31. Rest of the spec should remain just about the same. Good idea?

If you're gonna put it inside a cupboard you won't need a case. Also make sure there's some sort of air exhaust.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
