Hey Guys. Been lurking around for a while first time posting.  As title suggests, need new laptop and possible new computer I'm in Canada so prices are in Canadian.  Theres a couple things that can happen.  And thanks for the help in advance.

Total Budget: Probably around $1200 CAD - $1500 CAD, most likely on the lower end of that. Oh and tax included.

Current Computer: AMD X2 4200+ S939, 2GB DDR 400mhz, some asus motherboard, 250GB sata hd, 8800gts 512, cnps9500 or maybe it was 9700, some cheap case.  If i do get a computer i think i'll salvage the cnps9500, the 8800gts, and maybe the HD.

Situation #1 (I go to university out of town) - Only Laptop needed.
I was thinking HP HDX or Dell?  Any suggestions? Something that fits into that price range mentioned above.

Situation #2 (I go to university in town/no residence/dorm) - New computer and work computer.
Laptop - (Aspire or something along the lines of $500)
Computer - I really want an i7 but that doesn't seem possible without around $1200 or so.  So was thinking of settling for a computer around $700.
Will be building myself and will overclock.  Something along the lines of from www.directcanada.com:

    $61.58

So my question is, is that a good buy as of now (July/August)? or should i wait for something?

Looks good to me, no problems there. But if possible, go for a new GFX card.

Or do you think I should just wait till the i7 prices drop? The computer isn't urgent, cause I can still use this while getting a laptop for uni.

Think, do you actually need i7? It seems to be a tech head wet dream thing atm, total overkill for most people.

what makes you think he never needs that level of performance? If he doesn't need it right now, he can wait a bit for price to come down even more.
