OK the new comp im building only supports 1 IDE cable which has to be for the only cd rom drive i have.

So i need to use this SATA drive in said new computer.

This sata drive's version of windows is messed up, but i need to get info off of it.

My computer is not recognising this drive! my computer has never had a SATA drive in it, only IDE

How can i get my computer to recognise this sata drive, so i can drag the info onto my IDE drive, so i can reformat it (the messed up installation drive)

Some motherboards only do one or the other. You can however buy a USB adapter kit for the sata drive.

How is it not being recognized? In BIOS, in the simple windows explorer, in the windows hard drive manager?

If you haven't checked in the HD management for windows (somewhere around system tools), it ought to show up there. Problem is, if that's the only place it does show up, then it'll be another trick to get data off of it.

sorry for wasting your time guys.
my step-bro, who im building this comp for's dad appearently feels the need to have his friend do it instead.

fucking cunt bag. SHOULDA HAD HIS FUCKING FRIEND SPEND THE WHOLE GOD DAMN DAY building the newegg shopping cart. getting the best hardware for his money.

just cause i didnt have the fucking shit running in 2 days, both of which i didnt get to work on it till 8pm till about 11pm because i had work all fucking day. so i spent 3 total hours on it and need another sata drive and the fucking dickwad says oh we'll have someone else do it instead.

YA OK ENJOY IT IN A FUCKING WEEK WHEN HE GETS AROUND TO IT.

god i havent been this pissed. i had my heart into this comp, it was the first full comp ive ever built. i wanted to see it running and i wanted to be the fucking builder.

i hope his friend slips and drops it down the fucking stairs breaking every single piece and dropping the HDD's that hold all the backed up pics

I understand how you feel Mitch... you try and help people and a lot of times they will bitch about how all their pics are gone after you reformat their virus infested computer... even after you told them that all the pics and data would be lost... then you get the call 2 weeks later... i cant get online or my comp is acting weird... You become tech support for life...lol...   I used to help everyone... now i make sure to let them know that when i give it back... then they screw it up... it's their problem....haha

After that other thread, I think that's for the better.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I was going to say I have a SATA to USB (bought for like $40) that I dont use that I could send you...

I feel your pain Mitch, I spent the time looking for these parts for my step dads computer, got it to about $800 for a full setup, with the works, fucking nice ass computer, and I send the info to my dad, then he talks to his son (from his first marrage) who then hooked him up with a dell 1/4th as good for $600...

A FUCKING DELL.

Now I just don't help him...

I told him to install NOD32 on my moms new computer also, and what does he do? Renew his subscription to Webroot Spy Sweeper which uses like 220MB RAM idle, on my moms machine that has a GB of RAM... Yeah, no, don't listen to me, I don't know anything...

it is about lack of respect.
Fuck him, Mitch.
Just let your eyes glaze over whenever he asks any questions about computers.

It's not about lack of respect, it's impatience and M's friend would probably have done it to anyone.

I'd be annoyed at the little cunt but don't get worked up over it, it's really not that big a deal.

I'll admit I haven't read the whole post, but:

You said it has one IDE port for your CD drive... Well... Why not got an IDE cable with a Master and Slave end on? You can use two IDE devices per IDE port. I got my DVD drive and a Hard drive running on mine.

After your fiasco, would it be stupid to ask if the copy of windows you're running right now has sata drivers installed on it? If you're trying to hook up a sata hdd to a computer that doesn't have sata drivers installed, nothing will happen when you plug it in.

Happened to me once, tried to transfer my dad's data on a new sata drive using a restore disk that puts back everything where it belongs, but as it tried to format a temp Windows xp, it didn't have the necessary sata drivers on the temp disk, didn't realize it until the third try

lol, oh come on man, I'm sure he is aware of BIOS, and has an understanding of what it does. I mean, you kinda need to use it when building a computer amirite?
