I don't see anything funny, russian and ukrainian languages don't have latin alphabet equivalent (unlike serbian for example) so changing names to cyrillic is okay imo.DonFck wrote:
Whenever I'm in Russia, I can't but lol to the way they've changed every brand name to the phonetic equivalent in Cyrillic letters (E.g. the McDonald's earlier in this thread).
Can anyone guess what I had at Макдоналдс (Makdonalds, that's what is says)?

Yes, it's a Биг Мак (Big Mac -> Big Mak).
It's funny to us who don't use cyrillic. No offense meant whatsoever. Just as the English laugh at the Swedish word for "kiss" (Puss).Longbow wrote:

I'm used to my McDonalds food having the same text everywhere, Russia was the first exception I experienced.

Luck? Perhaps. You also have to be good. And yeah Flecco is right - how you're raised is uber-important. Also, little bro Braddock is now leaping ahead of me in terms of academia - he'll be Dr. Braddock soon.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

Skimmed on of the photo albums you posted and pooped myself a little. I can only hope to travel even 1/2 that much when I get out of Uni.

Mmm. When it comes to getting somewhere in the world of employment it has fuck all to do with luck. In business, yes a bit/lot of luck there, but as an employee? Almost entirely to do with your own effort, skills, employment history etc along with social networks you build and cultivate. Especially when it comes to professions, as opposed to trades and such.CameronPoe wrote:

Yeah but you lucked out in that your engineering job sends you off to all these cool places, while most engineers, even of equal skill, won't be so mobile.CameronPoe wrote:
