Ok, so I came up with this.. 1700USD max budget 1500 used so far... Recycling Corsair 750W TX PSU, opitcal drives, Antec 900, and OS.

There is massive difference in minimum fps with i7 and 3GB vs 6GB.

Looks good to me. I would go P6T Deluxe tho but vanilla should be allright too.

It's told that dual GTX260s or 280s/285s are a much better option than a single 295, as they get more bandwidth and have much better cooling.

Also, you already got a decent screen and speakers/headphones? Those matter even more than a good computer if you ask me.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Panzer experimented with this, but because of many SLi issues, he found a 295 was just.. easier.

Exactly. He's not an audiphile (I don't think) so he doesn't need to spend money on amazing stuff, when the setup he has at the moment will do him fine.
I do agree with getting a good screen though.

Bandwidth is not an issue with PCI-E 2.0 16x. Cooling is better on GTX 260/275/285 SLi. But if you get EVGA, you can undervolt the GTX 295 so it runs cooler and quieter under OC. I'm personally happy with the noise level after that even tho it is still far away from the far more quiet SLi.

GTX 275 SLi or GTX 295. Can't go wrong with either one of them. But seeing you have Antec 900, I would go for GTX 295 as there is not much room for SLi

Yeah, I've got a 22" sammy LCD and a banging home theater system ( I also have the audiophilia affliction). What would be the tangible benefits of a p6t deluxe over the vanilla board?

Difference in data transfer performance is very little (more dependent on the drive quality). You get rid of that ugly fat IDE cable.

edit: vanilla P6T has less good PWM, cooling and some other features cut down.

I can hit 4.5GHz on my D0 chip. PWM seems good enough unless you're doing something extreme

SATA and PATA optical drives typically spin at the same rate, but the rate is determined by the drive itself, not whether it is SATA or PATA.

lulz, I'm considering new SATA drives solely to rid myselft of that nasty IDE cable, its so...archaic...

Anyways, prob gonna do the vanilla board, how do you tell if you get a D0 chip? Something on the chip or w/ CPU-Z??
I plan on purchasing in two weeks (waiting on my check from my school), max you hit those speeds on air?! That's impressive!

Also, any benefit to replacing my XFI w/ a PCIE model?
