A Riverside County man was arrested on charges of felony animal cruelty after police say he bludgeoned his horse with a sledgehammer, decapitated it with a chainsaw and fed it to his dogs.

Jack Ziniuk, 64, of rural Anza called authorities Sunday morning to say his horse had been injured by dogs, was having seizures and needed to be put down, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Roach said.

But when officers arrived they found a headless horse. A bloody sledgehammer was submerged in a bucket of water and a chainsaw sat nearby. The animal’s head was lying in a dog run where Roach said it was serving as food for Ziniuk’s dogs.

Yeah, I think there is. You are responsible for giving your pets a healthy environment including food and clean water, health care, etc. Seen it on Animal Cops.

I'm no expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Sorry (AWK)... Who's to say what happened. Think of it. His horse passes out, starts frothing at the mouth, having uncontrollable seizures... What to do, what to do... Should he have shot it instead? If he was feeding it to his animals, how is this any different than him harvesting a cow? Cattle farms use a bolt gun thingy to dispatch the cattle. Fast Thin Iron bolt to Slower Skull crushing smashie thing... End result is the same.

I think a law passed recently in california that gives horses the same status as dogs or cats. I think they put it on the ballot to avoid using horse meat.
