Yes they are, but largely by virtue of having less recoil due to the low impulse cartridge and uber (large, yet effective) muzzle break. No, they are SVD clones, respectively Iraqi, Chinese and Romanian. However, the Romanian one is not a real SVD, but in fact a AK-47 rechambered for 7.62x54R and restyled to look like an SVD. Internally it is exactly the same as the AK-47/AKM, except maybe it has a semi only trigger group.henno13 wrote:

Finnish infantry uses RK-62 or RK-95 which is a bit improved AK clone with same caliber (Russia being our neighbour its better to use same ammo as them).
For sniper we have barrets and if I remember right, SVDs and some own designs.
I had the RK-62 when I was in air forces, pretty fun gun: accurate and good piercing power (good for forest combat)

Only problem is your neighbour no longer fields that caliber as standard issue since 1974, so that argument is only partially valid. However, I do think retaining the 7.62x39 was a good move by Finland as it the closer to being an ideal standard issue infantry round than either the 5.56 or 5.45. Atleast where I was they used the TRG-42 rifle. The RK-95 works great as a short range sniper as well. Just need to slap some optics on it (ACOG <3)GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Can hit stuff at about 500m. At 300m I could pop 'head sized' balloons pretty easily.
