"From what I understand, one of the victims is paralyzed for life. These are very, very serious charges," Judge Richard Nieto told Garbacki when he appeared in Central Judicial Processing Court yesterday.

Happened recently in my city. I know the driver Mike. He was the first new person I met in high school that I hung out with outside of it. I can actually remember the first time I met him and remember the last time I saw him in person, it was about a month ago while I was trying to bed romance his older sister. I also knew the girl who is permanently paralyzed too. She was also at the same party last time I saw her.
Shit is crazy. Wasn't expecting this to happen but I'm not at all surprised. I drove with him before and he was kinda reckless and he was a major drinker.

Last time I saw the paralyzed one she was complaining about trying to get a university transfer and how the schools were being dicks. Her boyfriend was also there and they were joking about what they're going to do later after college. We also had classes together since sophomore year.

But now she'll never walk again, my friend Mike who was one of my closest friends in HS is going to jail for a good while.

Bah life sucks sometimes.

I have little sympathy for drink drivers who do this kind of thing.

Feel very sorry for the girl though.

You feel sorry for the punk? He willingly and knowingly intoxicated himself and then proceeded to fucking drive while intoxicated. It's not like "don't drink and drive" is a foreign concept to us; it's hammered into our minds the moment we understand what it means.

The way I see it, if you injure someone while driving drunk you should be forced by law to pay for all their injury-related medical expenses for life. If you kill them, you should be sent to jail for life.

That's the first thing I noticed. He looks like he works at a cell phone store or a Footlocker.

On topic: That sucks dick for all parties involved. I hate when stuff like this happens.

The Comments are a bit telling.  Life happens.  In my town a highschool schoolmate killed 3 passengers in a DWI accident.  Fast forward two years and a new school,  a girl paralyzed herself and killed two in the her DWI accident. About 5 years ago at FSU a friend died along with his friend in a DWI accident.  Just about everyone knows or has been effected by this kind crap.. Its sad and avoidable.

My step brother drove drunk recently. He drove drunk into a ditch, with a car containing seven other people. Six got away with minor injuries, but one gal broke her neck and is now a vegetable. As it looks now, he's gonna be in debt for the rest of his life. Just the initial bills and damage are enough to put him on existence minimum for a good decade with his current income.

It's sad when people do this. Can't they learn from others' mistakes?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I'm sure everyone here has at experienced or knows of a sad situation, it's just a fact of life.  At the end of the day, there are always going to be people who do stupid things, regardless of what we have 'drilled into' us.

Like others have already said, I have no sympathy for drunk drivers.  It's stupid, irresponsible, ignorant, and incredibly inconsiderate for everyone involved.  Also, it's incredibly selfish, thinking you'd rather risk driving home and potentially killing whoever else is on the road instead of spending the night or paying a few bucks for a cab ride.

In my completely honest opinion, the penalties for drunk driving need to be more harsh.

That's a horrible situation... so many lives ruined... I am a bartender and i have seen so many deaths that were avoidable...
There should be a law that says no alcohol in your system when you drive... not even 1 beer... it sounds kind of extreme...
but when you get a call that someone you know just slammed into the back of a disabled car on the side of the road killing the other driver...because they had too much... you have no sympathy for them... The guy i am talking about got 18 years in jail... He will be in his 60's when he gets out...   Think before you drink and drive.... every fucking year about this time... some young kid(with their whole life ahead of them) who thought they were invincible dies and or kills other people while drunk driving...
Love is the answer
