Say I had a piece of an image that I cut and saved with a different file name, and for the life of me I couldn't work out where I'd put that original image, is there any way I can take the current image and search my HDD for part matches on other images?

I have heard of programs that can check for duplicates of images, perhaps one of them would be able to do what you want

Download

search all images and then sort by date-if you recently edited this file then it should be shown among the first couple of hits
