I've spent a fair amount of time bitching about how I think aircraft in BF2 are horribly unbalanced. There's no effective or reliable way to stop them except for another plane, and even then a good pilot will sit in their aircraft for just about the entire map. So I was overjoyed to see in the beta patch notes that AA targeting has been "tweaked" and that the J10 and F35 were "balanced." What have the rest of you seen? Are aircraft a bit more balanced or are they still overpowered?

- Patch 1.5 Beta: Did planes actually get fixed?
AA is balanced as it is (1.41).
Aircraft are not overpowerd in BF2.

I dont know I flew the J10 and I honestly couldnt tell, but I hardly ever fly planes in this game, and probably am not skilled enough to be able to pick the difference
Aircraft are only overpowered on maps without moblie AA. So only on Oman, Dalian and Wake.

Its like saying assault kits are overpowered because they can launch there nades further. You just have to get good and find a way to counter it.
Has anyone been able to identify how the J-10 and/or F-35 are different with the patch?
I've tried but EA fucked up my joystick so I insta-failed into the water.san4 wrote:

I'd agree with DoctaStrangelove, that more maps need mobile AA. They help, but they still fall victim to the same problems that all other vehicles face against aircraft.mooneyno1 wrote:

It gets oh-so-tiresome when you're playing anything ground-based when you get strafed/bombed by aircraft over and over. Hopping in an AA emplacement doesn't do any good 'cause they show up easily on the A-G HUD and just get strafed before you can even lock the AA missiles. Being in a vehicle doesn't help as any plane can take out any vehicle with one bombing run.
You could compare this to artillery's effects except that artillery is random in where it comes down and just because you're in its area doesn't mean you're going to be hit or killed by it. No, it's the fact that without a hotshot pilot on your team there is no reliable way to counter aircraft from the ground.
I think the proper solutions such things as to improve AA targeting and damage, to further reduce aircraft hitpoints, to keep SAM sites from showing up on A-G HUDs or to add in flak emplacements that don't require precision shooting to hit.

Wrong.
IGLA/Stinger/USS ESSEX are not the only methods of taking down enemy aircraft.
Artillery is not random, it hits the same spot every time.

Maybe that's how they equalized all the planes--by fucking up everyone's joystick settings with the Falcon crap so no one can get off the ground.Oisín | Irishpride wrote:

what about runway griefing? fixed or still fucked?
The patch addressed barely any issues worth playing, I know I haven't played it because changes that I could do in BF2E in an hour would be better than the ones they've done so far, bar stopping hacks, obviously.
This is working well as far as I can see. I've been on both ends of it_Dominiko_PL wrote:

I didn't notice much of a difference.
J-10s were still dodging my F-35 missiles with the slightest of turns.

Runway griefing is the only thing I like about the 1.5 patch. Seriously, griefing carriers is fucking epic now._Dominiko_PL wrote:

why don't they just get rid of them boxes around armour/emplacements that show up when you go into bomb mode.

I tried the F35 when I got the pad working it might be my mind but it seemed to turn better, I went back to 1.41 and it seemed like theres less angle on turning for F35, didnt try the J10 but people on the server were saying it handled crap
I think thats a gd idea, maybe only show boxes around AA vehicles, it would make it more of a challengeFatherTed wrote:

EA just fucks up everything that was orignally made good. especially BF2Oisín | Irishpride wrote:

More mobile AA, or remove ground-targetting boxes I say.
And retain targetting when a user switches positions within an aircraft (from pilot to gunner or vice versa).

Aircraft are definitley not overpowered on Dalian. It really isn't that difficult to go entire rounds in tanks/apc's or just inf without being killed by air vehicles and still score well. Oman is a bit worse in that all the beach flags are so open, you have no cover whatsoever and in that circumstance you probably should be bombed by the plane. And i always thought Wake was made so that air units could rape. Nothing else really seems to happen on the map.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

I don't think the game needs more mobile AA but the removal of ground-targetted boxes on static AA wouldn't be too bad. The decent pilots wouldn't be affected because they would already know where they all are and would easily be able to take them out. As such they would dominate which is what good players should do. The poor players looking to rape in air vehicles would suffer with their lack of knowledge and skill. As such they wouldn't dominate and that's the way it should be.pubic wrote:

Dalian definitely isn't jet rape, especially considering most Dalian servers, both NA and Euro, half no base rape rules. The 4 choppers do much more damage than the jets.
I've noticed a big difference but only played a short time. Some missiles missed, but every time I just spammed all 6 after flares to see how different it was. J10 was blown up every time, mostly turning or in a loop, so it's definitely improved that I can see.
♥
No base rape rules suck..:i7|Batman wrote:
