I have a DVD/VCR deck combo with RCA (composite/yellow video lead) output. I am trying to get it to work with an LCD monitor (ASUS VK266H, also with VGA, DVI, HDMI) that has RGB (component) video in. The current tools at my disposal are two RCA bundles and a 4-input component switch (with RCA and S-Video in/out). I know I'm probably swinging at thin air with these obscure wiring configurations, but current setup is as follows:

[Wii/PS2] ---component+audio---> [switch] ---component+audio---> [VK266H] + audio out
[laptop] ---HDMI---> [VK266H] + audio out
[desktop] ---DVI---> [VK266H]

About thirty minutes through google revealed a bunch of similar confused answers and links to expensive one-trick devices. Think I should just scrap the project and try an AV receiver?

Edit: To clarify, the monitor does have a composite (yellow) input, but it doesn't seem to receive a signal.

I would go with an all in one amp/video processor with HDMI out. Plug everything into that, have one output to the monitor. They're kind of pricey though

Yeah...I've been procrastinating on that, but I knew it was inevitable. The more time I spend screwing around with switches and modulators, the more a receiver would just pay itself off.

Saw it at Amazon and noticed reports of HDMI audio buzzing alongside ineffective Onkyo suggestions of 'swap at retailer.' I'll look into it further. For ~$500, I might latch onto Yamaha for another go (currently using a great pre-HDMI one as a home theater receiver).

heard lower end Onkyos aren't that good as other brand low ends. So if you want Onkyo then you should go for something better
Low end Yamahas on the other hand...
